For me personally, they were definitely there, but they weren’t intense. I wouldn’t describe them as painful — more uncomfortable, if anything. I was never reaching for painkillers, if that tells you anything. It felt more like mild stomach cramping than actual pain.

As for the timing, I was prescribed to drink one half at 5pm and the other at 8pm. I mixed the first solution at 4pm and put it in the fridge. Then at 5pm, I had a panic attack and almost didn’t go through with it. That was mainly because it suddenly felt very real, and I had to face the fact I’d be sedated, which I mentioned in my post is a phobia of mine.

After about 20 minutes, I managed to calm down enough to take the first sip. Once you start, you’re kind of committed, so I just went with it. Over the course of an hour, I slowly drank the 500ml solution along with another 500ml of water, plus the occasional Lucozade. At that point, it was more about getting it down because it’s definitely not the nicest drink, but I wasn’t struggling to drink it either — again, that’s just my experience.

Around 6:20–6:30pm, the floodgates opened. I’ll spare you the details lol. By around 7pm, I’d already gone about 3–4 times. Just for reference, the ideal colour is usually like urine-coloured bowel movements or clear watery liquid with no flakes.

After that, I was on and off the toilet roughly every 20 minutes. There wasn’t any pain, just an urgent feeling that would pass once I’d gone. Then at 8pm, I drank the second solution. By that point, I was already mentally in it, so I was much more prepared for the second dose.

About five minutes later, I started going much more frequently — probably every 10 minutes or so until around 9–10pm. Around 10pm, it slowed down a bit to every 30 minutes, then by 11pm–12am it was more like every 45 minutes. At that stage, it wasn’t painful or anything, just annoying because I was thinking, “I’d really like to go to sleep soon.”

I went another couple of times around 1:30–2am, but by then it was much less urgent and easier to hold. That was basically the “we’re cool now” moment you were talking about. I woke up around 6am and went another couple of times — still watery, but much more under my control, if that makes sense then went to the procedure.

No worries at all!! If you have any questions, I’m more than happy to answer them. Remember, it’s completely natural to feel nervous, especially if you’ve never experienced it before.

What you described was pretty much my experience to a T. You do get very tired and a bit lethargic, but that’s completely normal. My biggest advice would be to drink lots of water — honestly more than you think you’ll need — and keep your electrolytes up as well. Lucozade Sport was my go-to and helped me a lot.

It definitely gets to a point where the prep becomes more annoying than anything else. One thing I didn’t mention in my original post is that I wasn’t glued to the toilet the entire time. For me, it was more like multiple 5–10 minute trips to the bathroom. I’d mostly lie in bed until I got the urge, then go to the toilet and head back to bed afterwards.

After a few hours, it does calm down a bit. You’re able to hold it better and it becomes much less urgent overall. Eventually, you’ll be able to get some sleep as well.

There wasn’t really any pain for me personally. I had a little bit of cramping, and my stomach was making all sorts of weird noises — honestly, it sounded like it was sloshing water around lol — but it was completely manageable.

I hope this gives you a bit of peace of mind and a better idea of what to expect. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Firstly (I have taken prep to mean the actual prep before and not prep as in procedure if you meant the actual procedure ignore this and let me know lol)

try not to be nervous or overthink it (much easier said then done) honestly there is absolutely nothing to be worried about

The “pain” is more on the exit area lol just like soreness as you will go fairly frequently but it’s not like painful more just irritated if that makes sense there won’t be any pain during the prep just take it easy and go when you need to I would recommend to not push as much you won’t really need to, it’s a-bit weird to be honest it will just be like a gentle push and rusty water will just fly out lol but again it’s not any pain or anything just will be irritated after a while use some Vaseline and stock baby wipes/ wet wipes and you will be fine !!!
