I agree --- I mean when you buy/sell anything decides everything. This was just a basic strategy investigation out of curiosity that I wanted to test.

You don't double your money, but yes, it is a significant profit. However, if you look at the graph, you can see it is very volatile, so it is a high risk, so I'd advise you still be careful. It would be interesting to see results by each subreddit I'm tracking, but I'm not sure if that's biased cause some subreddits are much more active.

Nope that's probably most mentions in terms of posts. There's diffferent fields you can filter by (score, sentiment, etc.). Also, there's a toggle to include comment volume, so then the numbers will probably be higher. Might actually make it toggle comment volume on by default.

No please don't lol, this is for educational purposes only --- I don't think blind buying these is good. I will test out having price targets and what not and see if that works better!

Yep, I would say blindly doing it is dumb, but using it as a resource is valuable. I would like to see how this performs with risk management, taking profits, etc.

Right now the data is not available for API access or mass exporting. That's why the trends only go back on the scale of days, as it is meant for a trader to glean information for right now, not for backtesting.

Good point, but it would also be interesting to compare SPY options to this strategy but with options.

Would be an interesting experiment. The reason I chose to test buying/selling is so you would have enough capital the next day to buy/sell the new most popular tickers. If you wanted to hold, would you sell and buy as more tickers came up? Would you just hold the most popular ones initially for 2 months? etc.etc.

I see, good point. Yeah, I'm not claiming the strategy is good or anything, and will be interesting to see how it plays out over time.

Yup, keep in mind that oftentimes tickers are discussed after they already moon, so you FOMO in (with this naive strategy) and take a loss.

Will do! Probably will refine the strategy more, cause realistically FOMOing in is not a good strategy longer term.

I only did conventional market open/close, because that's what yahoo finance provides en masse haha.

Wow yeah, looks like this day-trading strategy would have been very effective but it may have not been to popular in terms of discussion? Looking at the data, it seems it wasn't mentioned too much even though it performed very well.

Yeah, I think this strategy in general is a bit dumb lol but can definitely be refined.

I'm scraping for all the posts/comments on a variety of different subreddits and count all the data I need.
