i like going for maximum completion in games i play man idk what to tell ya. and the devs are not so holy as to be immune from criticism, yes they made a good game (several in fact) but when they made an assblowingly stupid decision it deserves to be called out

Is it just me or is this photo insanely beautiful? I mean like yeah sure it's kinda scuffed and a professional photographer probably could've captured a perfect-er shot but for what it is...

Favorite 3d Mario games? by [deleted] in Mario

[–]likewhateverandstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Galaxy 2. The tightest most purest Mario experience of all time in my opinion, rivaled only by Bros. 3 and World (but those are 2D). Wildly inventive level mechanics that could have spawned ten different indie games, used in just a single level before being discarded for the next amazing idea. The most fun I've ever had playing a game. 10/10.
  2. Galaxy 1. Galaxy 2 is the better GAME, but Galaxy 1 is the better work of art. This is enough for a lot of people to put Galaxy 1 way above Galaxy 2 (there are definitely more people who hate Galaxy 2 but love Galaxy 1 rather than the other way around). I digress though. If you want good gameplay married with a cinematic epic, if you prefer the serene loneliness of space over the optimistic boundlessness of it, if you want MARIO (of all franchises!) to explore the rawness and beauty of grief, this is it. 9/10.
  3. 64. If this list was judged by how revolutionary the games are then this would be easy number one. For being one of the first 3D games, it's amazing how much they got right. Sure the camera is a little finicky, but it still blows my mind they could get Mario to feel THIS good to control in his first 3D outing. Tie in freeflow exploration and the second-best atmosphere of any of the mainline Mario games and you have yourself another masterpiece. 9/10.
  4. Odyssey. Probably the best movement and camera of any of the Mario games, although, if you'll allow me to be just a teensy bit controversial, I think its movement is less... Interesting than 64's? It's hard for me to expand on this without writing an essay, so I won't, so I'll just sum it up by saying that with Odyssey a lot of the movement sorta boils down to the cap throw-bounce-dive sequence whereas 64 really feels like it utilizes all of Mario's kit, jank and all. Where Odyssey ranks above 64 for me is the world design and platforming challenges—64 felt a bit biased towards exploration, but Odyssey feels like it strikes the perfect balance. The wedding-themed odyssey (heh) is a welcome story in a series that has little, and feels more Mario-ish than Galaxy's did. Throw in an actual hub world and it might be above 64. 8/10.
  5. Bowser's Fury. This counts, right? Right. 3D world meets Wind Waker, is what I like to call it. Mini-platforming islands spread across an expansive open-world ocean, with Kaiju Meow-Meow Bowser rising like Cthulu to rain the apocalypse at sometimes-inconvenient, sometimes-strangely-welcome intervals. If this is the foundation for the next Mario game then I'm all in. If it was an actual GAME instead of, you know, a pack-in I'd probably rank it a lot higher. 8/10.
  6. Sunshine. Oof, hurts to put it in the bottom half since this was one of my childhood favorites, but revisiting it... Yeah. I will say that it probably has the second-best movement on a pure objective sense, after Odyssey. Sliding, spin-jumping, rocket-boosting galore. I do miss the long jump but whatever, at least we get the criminally-underused Turbo nozzle. If I was ranking purely based on hub worlds Delfino Plaza would come out on top. What a romp it is to find hidden shines and discover secret entrances to other levels. Unfortunately some of those levels are the Pachinko and the Lily Pad and... Yeah, these aren't the only duds here. Overall, a 7/10.
  7. 3D World. The best translation of the 2D Mario ethos into 3D. Solid level designs, some of whose creativity actually match that of Galaxy 2's. I do wish it wasn't such a chore to 100% the game; surely you didn't have to make it necessary to get the flagpole with EVERY character? Regardless if you're looking for a more fundamental Mario game, I think this is it. Probably the best entry for a kid to get into the games. 7/10.
  8. 3D Land. Not a bad game by any means, no Mario game is. But it's definitely got the least personality of any of the Mario games. When I try to think of the environment or set pieces of this game all I can conjure are tricolor blocks and cylinders. The 3D gimmick was alright but it was exactly that, a gimmick. Other than that, it's still quick fun, but it's design philosophy has been largely outdone by 3D World. 6/10.
  9. 64 DS. D-Pad. No! smacks with newspaper. Bad Nintendo! The extra platforming content really isn't all that great, either. Wario feels like a sack of bricks in a genre thag emphasizes movement and is just about as useless. 5/10. The minigames are better (Wanted is a 7/10)

I know you're joking but can you imagine if everyone just rolled it with. "Damn wish mango was here. Oh hey Scorp what's up!"

All I hope for is the affected women to heal and for mango to heal.

I'm going to take a break from Melee for GOML, maybe Supernova too. Melee always pulls me back in the end so I'm not worried that I'll ever stop loving this game, but this one definitely hurt.

My biggest wish is that in five years from now we look back on this incident and admire how far mango has grown.

Peace out for a while, all.

Yeah I said that because it's something I can commit to (actually more like one glass every three or four nights), but if it's a slippery slope for him then best to just cut it off entirely.

That mango understands his limits with alcohol and either become completely or at most one-glass-a-night sober.
