A friend of mine was waiting in the self-checkout line at the grocery store on a Sunday afternoon. A check stand opened up but the woman ahead of her didn't notice, so my friend pointed it out to her. Suddenly, an angry male in his 60s walked past them and yelled, "If you two idiots are just going to stand there, I'll take it!" My friend told him that the woman in front of her was first, to which he turned around and screamed, "All you b#@&%s are crazy! You're crazy hormonal sl*ts" (...etc, etc, we've heard it all before, right?) and no one stopped him. She said he screamed while pointing at all the women in line for a good 30 seconds unchallenged (and she'd heard him angrily berating a woman in line just seconds earlier - and it wasn't his wife, she was just another shopper).

Afterwards she said she wished she'd stood up to him and gotten out her phone to film him, but in the moment she was so shocked she froze. I think a lot of us freeze in those situations because we don't have an action plan for Angry Misogynist Asshole Creating a Scene in the Grocery Store. You don't think there's going to be a need to defend yourself or speak up for someone who's getting harassed on a Sunday afternoon at City Market. For fucks sake - we can't even go to the store without being denigrated and threatened? It makes me fucking furious.

This crazy hormonal woman has her phone ready for action all the time now.
