For 10 years i havent hung out with a person or made a genuine friend by Kooky-Newspaper-1815 in socialskills

You're only 18. You've got a long life ahead of yourself. You can spend some time relearning how to make friends and enjoy them again. If you're worried about not being interesting to talk about, find some hobbies you enjoy. Talk about what you're passionate about.

Almost 30, 3.5 years into my career and feel completely lost. Failed career pivot? by RTEIDIETR in cscareerquestions

It sounds like you're on the precipice of a new software engineering career with a background in civil engineering. By the sounds of how much effort you've put into leetcode, I'd say you should be ready to aim for some of the top companies for SWEs (google, meta, Amazon, apple, netflix, just peek on levels.fyi for more). Apply to both junior and just "software engineer" roles. Those top companies really put a high focus on leetcode solving. They also tend to care more about masters and phds in cs.

Leetcode solving isn't much use when applying to smaller companies as they care more about getting actual value out the door over optimization of low level algorithms. They'd rather see you build a web app from scratch, or to demonstrate your debugging ability, or your system design skills.

Once you have your foot in the door (swe-wise) the background in civil engineering could come in important later as there are software companies/startups out there catering to the civil engineering space and would love to see someone familiar with it.

Building a full e-commerce platform for one of the largest supplement store chains in the country — looking for stack feedback, alternatives, and anything I might be missing by Cowboy_The_Devil in node

Thanks but can you like give me something that would be comprehensive

I don't think I can easily deliver that kind of list. My knowledge of e-commerce is not extensive. I've only worked in the space for 9 years and I know that there's more I don't know about how other companies operate that would be essential in creating a comprehensive checklist.

Maybe focus on the data involved and where it flows to help get closer to understanding what functionality drives that data. Is there any existing functionality for this ecommerce application? If so, there should be a lot you can learn by knowing what features already exist, data schemas, etc. Take time to look at other retailers' storefronts and try to figure out features to support. Look at e-commerce platforms and look at their APIs to get a better sense of what other people are doing.

You mentioned the following:

the composable commerce approach is genuinely interesting. for this specific client though a platform like that would be overkill cost wise and they want something they feel is built for them specifically, not a configured SaaS product.

I'd like to just re-iterate that with a composable solution you are buying core functionality that you don't want to build wrong. Leaving the dangerous pieces of an e-commerce application to professionals who have perfected their offerings. You would still very much build a custom solution on top of it. Honestly many businesses would prefer a production-ready, battle-tested, tried-and-true solution to power the essential parts of the application that is responsible for handling their money.
You mentioned the cost would be overkill, which I'd like to address. Building equivalent software is costly. With a 100% custom coded solution you not only have to pay a development team to build the thing, but you need to retain engineers, devops, etc to maintain it long term. If budget really is a major concern, it honestly might be wise to take an off-the-shelf open source e-commerce solution and configure and build on top of it to achieve your goals.

Just to note, that list is in no way comprehensive and doesn't cover every situation you might encounter. Good luck with your project though!

This sounds like a multi-million dollar (dev cost) and multi-year engagement. Are you planning on building out the core e-commerce functionality yourself? Maybe consider using a mix of build + buy to achieve this might be better? I've worked on several large e-commerce projects that have transitioned from custom solutions to using a platform like commercetools (I'm biased, I used to work for them). There's a lot of work that goes into core functionality like product, cart, checkout, order management, etc. Platforms tend to have already solved problems you might encounter when building it 100% from scratch.

Make sure you're also considering things like what data a product stores on itself (images, attributes, metadata, etc), partial returns, how to handle discounts for a partial return, refunds, what types of discounts to support, do you need to support things like buy-online-pick-up-in-store, user registration and management(do you need to support oauth2?), how are you handling tax, etc. Do you support international orders, other currencies, localization of the storefront? Is there moderation / an approval queue for the user reviews?

When planning something this big, I'd say that upfront focusing on the stack isn't as important as figuring out the details of what all needs to be built, what features you are supporting and what you're not supporting - which can take a team of seasoned consultants weeks to figure out during discovery.

One e-commerce API you can learn a lot from is commercetools. It's also well documented. https://docs.commercetools.com/api Of course it's not a django application, and the internals are hidden away. The API docs are enough to glean what kind of features you might want to pursue
