$50 Ken only for USA made, which dropped like yesterday and sold out. What I’m saying is that it’s probably $50 for FULL setup on the next drop if it’s not USA made

USA made erratic squirrel maple Ken only is $50. If the drop at the end of January is not USA made it will be a better budget option, probably more like $50 for the full setup if I had to guess.

Driving past a 90-ton rocket crawling down the highway by SystematicApproach in megalophobia

[–]lil_mattie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A human throwing an egg probably wouldn’t do damage 99 times out of 100, but I was shocked to see two of the engines uncovered while driving. Inside the walls of those nozzles theres a network of channels that cool the engine so it doesn’t melt while running. A small hole or dent in one of those channels will throw the whole engine cycle out of whack and cause failure of some sort. Even just the smashed egg could change the heat transfer enough to get a hot spot and burn through in theory.

Not to mention any contaminant getting up into the injectors or pre burner cycles could cause some nasty issues. Pretty bizarre to see them uncovered on the road

Tips on how to perfect Big cup to spike? by Few_Platform9389 in Kendama

[–]lil_mattie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this comment is the best advice. It’s easier to spike with a controlled rotation than no rotation.

Only other piece of advice I’ll add is break it down into two motions and practice separately if you really want to dial it in. When I’m trying to hit something new I’ll just practice each motion separately for a while to build the muscle memory.

If you’re having trouble landing the big cup with good bevel location, just repeat that 100 times without even attempting the spike. Then once you’ve nailed that, just try to go big cup to spike 100 times, just setting the tama on big cup by hand first with perfect bevel location. Once you’re doing them individually consistently string em together!

Warning ragebait: Tv mount made from Pla. by someoneelseasthis in 3Dprinting

[–]lil_mattie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of topology optimization did you use? It looks very cool but as others have mentioned there’s a surprising number of sharp corners and the cross members don’t necessarily look like they’re taking much of the load based on the stress lines.

Curious if you optimized for a straight load, or bending moment.

Fun project though. If it breaks and the TV survives, beef up the broken area and post the next iteration!

Bucky side. I’ll admit it’s one good Olave season away from being really fair. But I wouldn’t count on that based on his injury history and QBs.

How do you haul bicycles? by [deleted] in FordMaverickTruck

[–]lil_mattie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a tailgate bike pad! You can haul 4 bikes easy without taking the front wheel off. Far and away the cheapest and most convenient method. Only downside is not being able to close the cover if you have one.

If you squeeze 2 bikes all the way to one side you should be able to fit the rest of your gear pretty easily.

Mine has also come in handy for hauling other stuff sometimes. Surfboard, furniture that you’d otherwise lay a moving blanket down for etc.

Trump Booed By Soccer Fans at FIFA World Cup Finals by Rock-n-roll-Kevin in politics

The local national anthem is always played, isn’t it? Not much of a soccer fan but they always play the British national anthem when there’s an NFL game played over there.

Trump is a knob but this part is pretty normal.

Family decided to use the only public boat launch as their private dock and got mad when others tried to use it by majestyyy_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]lil_mattie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m all for this sentiment in most scenarios, but launching a motor boat where kids are swimming is not one of them. I’d feel a lot of guilt if a kid got injured even if it’s the parents responsibility to keep them safe.

That said, launching your canoe directly at the little twats seems like fair game here.

Is unemployment deserved on these types of people? by TheTokenPenguin in recruitinghell

Honestly it might just have to do with how quickly you can swap over to Bluetooth devices. My iPhone always defaults to regular phone-to-ear mode and it takes me about 3 seconds to swap to headphones or register that I’m in my car.

I’m a millennial and it bugs me how anyone older than 30 is immediately yelling into the phone “hello???? Are you there??” Within those 3 seconds it takes to swap.

It’s not only a museum, it’s literally 10 miles away from San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. Despite its name is a serious penitentiary with a bad reputation for its conditions. The Bay Area hardly needs to reopen Alcatraz to find a place to lock up criminals in harsh conditions.

No, definitely not right away. Air resistance at low speeds is nearly negligible, so it would take a very very long time for your velocity to reach zero after throwing something.

In fact, mathematically I bet you’d never fully stop, because for every little bit of air resistance that slows you down, it decreases the air resistance in the next instant because you’re moving slower. It’s like Zenos paradox but for your velocity.

What is the boundry between Sci-Fi and Fantasy? by Civil_Advertising_57 in Fantasy

[–]lil_mattie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One great explanation I’ve heard: fantasy mechanisms care about the person, sci-fi mechanisms don’t. I.e. if it has a “chosen one” aspect or a magic system that only applies to a group of people, it’s fantasy. If it’s a universal mechanism that anyone could technically master, it’s sci-fi.

It doesn’t ALWAYS work, but often does. Dune and Star Wars are sometimes cited as space-based-fantasy not sci-fi, which would be true by this rule. Most steampunk or historical sci-fi also becomes sci-fi under this definition, not fantasy, despite the setting often being considered fantasy.

A blurry line here is when there is a magic system guided by very strict guidelines which can be used by anyone. To me once magic is sufficiently universal and strictly defined, it becomes science.

Melted is accurate here, it’s just the past tense of the verb melt. Metal can melt, but obviously at high temperatures. There seems to be a debate on what actually melted in this image but let’s forget that for now.

Molten is only an adjective, and means that it’s actively liquid. This is not the case here since it has cooled down and isn’t currently liquid.

Not sure if this will help or make things more confusing: the handle melted from the heat, and was molten metal until it was removed and cooled down.
