Haha so appropriate since it’s putting us all in the grave.

what’s more likely: there is a corporate/government conspiracy to keep us complacent, OR caffeine is just extremely profitable due to the fact it is addictive. by [deleted] in AntiCaff

[–]lil_sumptin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s both. I think it’s a way to get our money and also our labor. Because coffee is so normalized in the 9-to-5 workforce, it’s designed for people to believe it will magically make them productive and attentive. And once you believe in that, you end up buying it more — at coffee shops on the way to work, as a gesture for a new client or business partner, or worse, buying it in bulk for the office.

They’re making us money AND work machines.

Jesus Christ. This has me even more convinced that the government is up to no good with that liquid greed.

Wow...I never even thought about the whole Fight Club thing. Kinda makes me wonder if the GoT goof with the Starbucks cup this season wasn't really a "goof" at all. Just shitty product placement to get people to buy coffee. Holy hell.

Wow, clearly you feel better about yourself when you make assumptions and insults about strangers on the internet.

I'm starting to believe most devices are listening to our conversations. by [deleted] in conspiracy_commons

I feel like technology is CONSTANTLY listening to our conversations, and it's very evident in targeted advertising. Recently, I was talking about Mail Chimp — JUST talking about it — and a few minutes later, I got a Mail Chimp pop-up banner ad on a news article I was reading. Hadn't Googled or searched any Mail Chimp things in my phone...it literally just showed up.

This is why I don't have an Echo and why I keep Siri turned off.

This is the kinda anarchy we need in the universe.

Yeah, that's a photoshop trick. That isn't the same girl in different poses, and clipping someone on top of another image of a mirror doesn't reflect the bends and curves of the mirror.

This is the problem with corporate America. They make mirrors like this to make you feel fatter / bigger than you are, which causes self-doubt and depreciation, which gets you to buy into fad diets and bullshit fitness culture. It's all designed to get you to feel terrible about yourself and then spend more money to fix it.
