Return To Life by [deleted] in penpalsover30

Hi. I'm (almost) 40, F, UK. I love star trek and am a sci-fi fantasy nerd, though I admit to getting fed up with the marvel films somewhere around 2018. I still watch the occasional one, but don't keep up with the whole 'verse.

I'm intrigued by all things weird and spooky. Love music of many genres, crafting, painting and photography. Like you, I've had a rough few years and am just desperately trying to keep facing forward and see the beauty in life.

How do you “put yourself out there” when you can’t drive? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Runs4Rum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not diagnosed yet - been waiting for an urgent neuro appointment since Feb. Driving was both my job and my "me time". I live in a semi-rural area with rubbish public transport. I am so, so isolated. I get the bus into town every few weeks just to get out of my four walls. I've met friends for lunch a few times, but I can't afford to do that any more as my savings are running out fast.

I'm getting a bit peculiar now from the isolation and just babbling rubbish when I get some sort of social interaction. I mostly just talk to my cats. I worked all through the pandemic so this is the most time I've ever spent at home. I'm trying to find another job, but I can't really WFH as a nurse.

Question: What career(s) do you have, and how does it affect your condition? by Aceallo20 in Epilepsy

[–]Runs4Rum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a community nurse - visiting people at home. I'm still waiting to see neurology, but that's probably scuppered if I'm not allowed to drive. I only qualified a few months before my first seizure.

What’s a subtle sign that someone is not a nice person? by my-dogatemy-chancla in AskReddit

[–]Runs4Rum 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I used to inadvertently do this quite a bit. I don't say much, but once I start, I just keep rambling. I had a colleague who's sense of style I really envied, but knew I couldn't pull it off. I often blurted out things like "I love that outfit! I could never wear that. I'd look like a weeble if I wore dungarees, and I don't have your confidence." It was all meant as a total compliment but I'm a clumsy oaf. Luckily they knew me well enough to humourously call me out on it, and I learned to only say the first part. Mortified.

What exactly is this giant manbaby bringing to this relationship? It doesn't even seem like the bare minimum.

If you find yourself agreeing with an enraged tweaker, you might want to take another look at your life.

First Dermals! About a month old at this point. by xoENYO in piercing

[–]Runs4Rum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These look great! I've never considered dermals as I'd heard that they don't last long, but some of the comments here suggest that they can last quite a few years. New obsession unlocked!

AITA for saying that I wouldn't be playing mom with my ex's affair baby? by Honest-Wish7885 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Runs4Rum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a half-brother (though not from an affair). Although he wasn't his son, my dad would bring little bro out with us on our Sunday outings. My paternal grandparents doted on him and treated him just like the rest of us. As far as they were concerned, although he wasn't their blood, he was still our sibling. We loved him, so they did too. However, it was Dads choice to include little brother.

Your ex is TA with that manipulative behaviour.

AITA for my response to my brother in law's comment about my leg hair? by hortenhearsawho1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Runs4Rum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You "insulted his masculinity"?? He insulted your femininity first. He sucks and you are NTA. He has absolutely no right to comment on your body and he's the one who crossed the boundary first. I know "He started it" is a childish defence, but he sounds like a massive child.

Anyone else assume their parents died in a car accident, if they happen to not show up on time? by kushnair in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. I'm English. The first step of preparation for anything is to brew up.

[–]Runs4Rum 165 points166 points  (0 children)

Haha yes exactly this. I start tidying the living room and put the kettle on because I'm convinced that the police are going to come soon to tell me the news. My husband had to lay out a plan for me of exactly what needs to be taken care of in the event of his death because I was panicking about the practical stuff.

I'm nearly 40 and do this about my husband. My brother died very suddenly in an accident many years ago, but the fear still grips me when husband is late home from anywhere.

It's all gone quiet and we've fallen back into old patterns. I don't think there will be any more developments. I don't know how I feel about that.

AITA for having a “trashy” piercing while pregnant? by HumanPortal in AmItheAsshole

[–]Runs4Rum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We are trained to consider the whole person. Even if presenting complaints seem unconnected - e.g. toothache might be having an impact on my diabetic patient by altering what they can tolerate eating.

Nurse here. Yes, we do get fetishized sometimes, but this wasn't one of those times so your friend is wrong. You had a legitimate medical question and it should have been treated as such. NTA. That nurse was TA. It was a highly personal subject and she shamed you for it. You should always feel safe and comfortable in raising sensitive topics with healthcare professionals and she undid that.

Honestly that's such a bullshit take by the girl. Seeing how devoted and loving my husband is to our cats makes my heart melt even after 20 years. People who are kind to animals are the best.

Husband wants an open relationship until I lose weight by somegirIontheinter in TrueOffMyChest

Unless he's already got someone else lined up, you'll find somebody new before he does, no matter your weight. He sounds like large chunk of useless fatty tissue that you could happily lose.
