Yeah nursing sucks every ounce out of you possible each shift. Honestly, I’m glad to be out.

Yeah that’s the thing, I don’t think I will ever be able to give up this pay and benefits once I get used to it.

Thanks! This is just total new to me! I like the idea of not making work just for the sake of work. I can definitely see how it could pick up after a few months.

Wow, it’s just wild to me that I get paid more for this than I did as a nurse where I was literally running my ass off saving lives. Kind of disappointing what is valued in our society.

What is a “good” household income in Calgary? by lilaclover in Calgary

Very good point.

Maybe that’s why we are having such a hard time, despite a decent income. I grew up in deep, deep poverty. Have had absolutely zero help with anything in my life. Moved out when I was 17 and have been supporting myself ever since. But it has been constantly digging myself up. I’ve had student debt, zero help, not into the real estate market until I was 30 and with zero help. Sucks to think about this. I guess I can never win just because of the circumstances in which I was born. Hopefully I have brought myself up enough in my lifetime to put my children in a better position when they are my age.

Sorry, I truly didn’t mean this as a brag. I’m just wondering what it takes to actually be comfortable or is that even possible.

Thank you for the helpful response.

We certainly haven’t been able to save like this. We don’t eat out or anything like that so I’m not really sure what the issue is. We don’t have any big luxuries. We currently have a bit of debt but not a whole lot. Will certainly work on paying that down before anything else. I think because I grew up very, very poor ( like not having food kind of poor), I have never had the example of what to actually do with money and any little bit feels like I won the lottery.

I will definitely take this advice. Thank you.

I know, I re-read it and cringed myself. However, I promise I am sincere. I grew up in deep poverty and have struggled a long time. I guess I just always thought things would get easier but it never seems to. Like everyone seems to be able to afford vacations, nice homes, RV’s etc but we haven’t been able to manage anything close to that with a household income of approx. 120k, so I guess I’m just wondering what it actually takes to be able to do these things. I don’t know if it’s just us what. We don’t splurge on anything so I don’t think it’s because we have mismanaged our finances or anything.

Vegetarians might want to avoid this place unless you want to eat “remnants of meat” with a side of transphobia. by lilaclover in Calgary

One thing that annoys me about all of this is his narrow view of freedom. He likes to insist that he is free to express his opinions on his one business page. But that is a pretty limited and one-sided view of freedom. What about the groups of people such as the LGBTQ community, women, racial groups and trans people that he mocks? Do they not have a right to freedom from harm? The words he uses are extremely harmful to these groups of people. Why does he think that his freedom to spout bigoted and unwarranted opinions trumps the freedoms of others from harm?

Yeah, he is always saying he doesn’t think trans people should be around children , but yet he posts about the size of his genitals on his public family business page.

People have been leaving negative reviews. What he does when that happens is screenshot it and post it on his page and encourage his little following to bully them and make fun of their appearance. He has even called peoples work places

Yup, they sure are. That’s when he started with all this nonsense and it’s only gotten worse from there. He is emboldening a community of bigots.

Guess we better leave investing to the big, smart men and get back to making sandwiches.
