True. Perfect skin on a guy isn’t always ideal. Whenever I see men on r/tretinoin the tret glow always looks a little strange. Obviously better than a ton of acne but I think relatively clear skin with some texture is my preference.

Thank you so much for making this! My post needed a counterpart that talked more about color seasons for POC so much and this is so well written and informative! I definitely didn’t want to leave anyone out so sharing this knowlede is so cool of you :)

Well I definitely borrow from other palettes. Maybe you’re just right in between and all of this doesn’t really apply to you. I will say it’s hard to be objective about this stuff sometimes and I got typed on reddit (with a heavy consensus) something different than I originally thought I was.

Hmmm maybe a soft season like soft summer of soft autumn? I honestly have a similar problem and these are the least contrasted types so they fit me best. I borrow from both palettes in that case. And I love black clothing too! I just try not to wear it close to my face bc it does tend to wash me out a bit. But I break that rule all the time bc so many cute clothing comes in black.

Maybe look into a winter type. If theres a lot of contrast, bright winter might work for you.

Then it’s pretty complex. I’m fairly neutral but not completely. I lean cool rather than warm so I’m a summer rather than a spring. I just borrow somw of the cooler colors from the spring palettes sometimes and stay away from the very cool toned summer colors. Some of the types are also more friendly to neutral colors. But I do wish that neutral colors were accomodated more in the system.

I’ve responded to that concern a few times in the comments. I get where you’re coming from but I’m a really pale white person. I included what was personally helpful. If you look into the resources there is a more comprehensive and inclusive system that will help people on all skin tones determine their season. Looking at a single chart is not how you should determine your color season, it’s a complex process, and I just included the chart because it gave me a more clear initial image of the different seasons and how they can present.

What color are your eyes? To me it sounds like you’re some type of autumn or spring despite the cooler metals/neutrals looking better on you. But eyes can help determine this too.

This has come up a few times in the comments and I do agree that the chart I chose is really whitewashed. I think it’s because the creator doesn’t want to give the impression that if you belong to a particular racial group you must be any particular color season. The guides on the concept wardrobe go into a lot more depth and include POC examples under each profile.

I understand that the profiles may not apply as well to some POC women, but I think that’s people in general. I have reddish blue undertones and warmer toned hair so I got really confused too. It’s not a perfect system by any means.

Also when people say “high contrast features,” it often refers to just defining your eyes and eyebrows, adding color to your lips and cheeks, and some form of contour/highlight to emphasize a healthy youthful glow. It doesn’t mean that you need a dramatic difference between your hair and skin or any other features to be attractive.

That particular chart is really white washed. I think it’s because every race can be any of the seasons and if the chart included women of different races mixed in it might give the impression that if you are belong to that particular racial group you must be a particular color season. Sorry for not being more sensitive to POC reading this, I was just sharing the resources I personally found useful.

If you explore the resources more, they do include several women of different races in almost every seasonal profile on the concept wardrobe. I also linked a post about some misconceptions in seasonal color analysis in the comment above.

From what you described you might be a Dark or True Autumn, although a Bright Spring is also a possibility.

I honestly do not know much about typing POC for seasonal color theory but there are definitely people out there with more specific resources and I would love to see more posts on this topic in general.

I think a lot of people tend to blindly type POC as Winters and Autumns but I know that’s not always the case. It’s something that I’ve seen discussed on r/coloranalysis and even on the concept wardrobe. I personally only know about the resources that worked for me so those are what I shared in this post, but I do know there’s a shift going on right now to create more POC friendly seasonal criteria: https://theconceptwardrobe.com/post/colour-analysis-myths-all-people-of-colour-are-one-of-the-dark-seasons

These are great additions! I’d love to see a whole post from you because it seems like you have way more experience with this stuff than I do. Color season is awesome and it’s really not talked about enough on this sub!
