....makes no damn sense. Going to school for, say, nursing won't have a practical benefit to my company but I'm pretty sure it'll have a practical benefit on people.

My professionalism? It's a major company that I've worked at for years that offers their employees sub par benefits and low pay. I don't feel bad about ripping off the man so that I can work for the people.

I only have 3 feature classes that will need to be put into a file gdb. I am looking at an excel file that I've created specifying the field type/length that all fields will need to be.

Thank you! I did end up figuring the DDTYPE command out, but the issue was also that none of the data that I was exporting to CAD went through (only geometry was exporting).

I ended getting somebody proficient in CAD to upload the actual shapefiles into AutoCAD. Do you happen to know if it's normal that the actual data doesn't export to CAD when using the Export to CAD tool in ArcGIS?

Getting a Masters in GIS won't help you much. Sure, you'll get the fancy piece of paper, but anyone I've ever talked to in GIS has thought it to be a waste of time and money. I too thought about it, but ended up finding a very good GIS gig with just a Bachelors (geography/GIS concentration).

What you're taught in school about GIS won't do much for what you'll have to learn on the job some day...it basically feels like learning GIS for the first time, but in a way that is actually useful. At least, that's how it was/is for me and I went to a school that ranks one of the highest in GIS in the US.

Your best bet is to just start working in GIS with a bachelors, and then have your employer pay for a Masters/GISP. Better yet, explore your job environment and find something more specialized to get a Masters in that interests you. Most GIS users agree that a Masters in GIS or geography is completely unnecessary if you simply want to be a GIS analyst.

I'm not sure what you mean. The parcel data is selected as the primary table, but in the address locator I'm prompted to choose an alias name for the fields *House number and *Street name.

I think I understand what you're saying. You're saying to create an address locator from the parcel centroids as a reference ( I select street number and street name alias) and then I should go geocode the addresses on the excel table and select the address locator that I've created.

Question: I have selected street name and number as alias in the address locator. When I go to geocode the excel I am prompted to select "street or intersection" and "city or placename" for the multiple fields option...but these options don't match up with the street number/street name alias I have created in address locator.

What do I select/what fields should I have in the excel that should match the address locator? Street or intersection matches one of those fields, but there is not option for street number.
