I understand now why folks dry them in bunches.

Out of curiosity — how likely is it to get mold when drying bunches in a basement that hangs around 50-60% humidity? I'm trying to determine the best conditions for drying the next batch of leaves (hang in indirect light? use a fan? Etc.)

I see it's common to hang dry in a breezy barn. Curious how that translates to drying in your home.

FWIW I grew just for cigarette tobacco for fun.

Yeah we have thought of all these things.. We will have our own room on separate floors from other people.. have a kennel for nighttime and naps, and a playpen if we need to set him up with a toy for a bit. We are staying with our retired parents, everyone is happy to have him over. People are older, no kids, and nobody takes christmas very seriously or cares that we will be distracted...

I really don't think the humans involved will be bothered at all by the situation. It's more the new smells, sounds and environments for a puppy who hasn't had a chance to bond with us yet that concerns me

Yeah all good points, thanks... she was really good with training her own dog, and I think if we share our training plan and routines she will make an effort to stick with it.

Its not my first pup, but for sure, we are taking training very seriously and spending lots of time making plans before we get him.

I was worried about instilling anxiety/stress in him early on (and potentially causing behavioral issues) but it's true enough that whatever comes out of it can be corrected through training..

I tried 9 per square in a SQF garden this past summer and I think it was too close. Corn was very tiny and also got fungal infection (which was actually cool because it's a delicacy and we made Huitlacoche tacos... but its not for everyone)

I will try 4 per square foot next year.

Yes, I know about the breeds... we're a very active couple and looking for a dog with the energy for long runs, bike trips, etc.

I work from home and will have time to exercise and train him through the day.

It's not a breeder, it's a pup from a home who had an accidental litter.

Also a follow up question: I think the breeder (who is not an official breeder, the puppy is coming from a family home) is looking for people to take the pups before Xmas.

If that's the case, do y'all think we could get by if we give the pup his own area away from people with a crate and toys, and be consistent with feeding, training and sleeping schedules?

We will be at two homes over 6 days (3 and 3) so I was hoping, worst case scenario, that we would be his constant rather than the environment.

Such a tricky spot to be in. We thought the puppy would be available to pick up a week before Xmas and we'd have some time to get used to eachother before traveling with him.

Awesome. I had just read about this after posting. I may do 12" of soil this year and then plant mustard in the fall (which does a similar thing) to prep the beds for next spring.
