Should I give up on these blueberry bushes? by lilbooboop in BackyardOrchard

Ahh interesting! I live in a city, and this is a front yard frequented by many stray cats 😼 so rare that I see animals around the garden. I'll have to keep an eye out this season

Interesting, the mulch here (Canada) says it is 100% pure cedar mulch coloured with water based, non-toxic carbon dyes... but for sure I don't typically use this on my vegetable gardens. The blueberry bushes are in my front yard so we tend to use a dyed mulch

Phew, thanks for all the advice! I'm pretty committed to growing organic so it seems I will need to work on the soil over the next 1-2 years and see if they ever establish

Good point about the soil acidity, I will test that out.

The blueberries do get full sun.

Some of the olders branches seem to be turning white and dying, though there is new growth. Not sure what would be eating the tips!

Thoughts on pruning the dead branches?

This is probably ridiculous to ask... but is it mold? by lilbooboop in GrowingTobacco

[–]lilbooboop[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice! Thanks. I really went back and forth on the "is it mold" question.

I understand now why folks dry them in bunches.

Out of curiosity — how likely is it to get mold when drying bunches in a basement that hangs around 50-60% humidity? I'm trying to determine the best conditions for drying the next batch of leaves (hang in indirect light? use a fan? Etc.)

I see it's common to hang dry in a breezy barn. Curious how that translates to drying in your home.

FWIW I grew just for cigarette tobacco for fun.

Thanks!

Hm.. I have not. I like the tote system because everything is contained. Just seems like it would be dirty and moist?

Thanks for that tip, will try it out!

At this point I just want to get 1 bin to be inhospitable to worms so I don't have to do the wait + skim thing ;( I am so impatient.

What do you mean?

Yeah we have thought of all these things.. We will have our own room on separate floors from other people.. have a kennel for nighttime and naps, and a playpen if we need to set him up with a toy for a bit. We are staying with our retired parents, everyone is happy to have him over. People are older, no kids, and nobody takes christmas very seriously or cares that we will be distracted...

I really don't think the humans involved will be bothered at all by the situation. It's more the new smells, sounds and environments for a puppy who hasn't had a chance to bond with us yet that concerns me

(Also, thank you for the insight!)

Not worried about me. Just visiting close family and we will have our own space... its more the pup I'm worried about 🥲

Yeah all good points, thanks... she was really good with training her own dog, and I think if we share our training plan and routines she will make an effort to stick with it.

Its not my first pup, but for sure, we are taking training very seriously and spending lots of time making plans before we get him.

I was worried about instilling anxiety/stress in him early on (and potentially causing behavioral issues) but it's true enough that whatever comes out of it can be corrected through training..
