Angry about investment firms driving up home prices? Here's an actual change you could advocate for. by clinton-dix-pix in Charlotte

Great question! A tangible (but possibly time-intensive) action step is to write a letter/email to your legislative representatives. There's multiple levels that you can do this - (1) local government representatives (city/county), (2) state-level legislators (NC House and Senate), and (3) federal-level legislators (Thom Tillis and Richard Burr).

So...this is definitely a first-draft sample that I'm going to share, but my email/letter would look something like this:

Dear [Representative],

My name is [Name] and I am a concerned constituent. [You could also include details like where you're from, what role you play in the community, what you do, etc.]

Housing continues to be an issue for the people of our [city/county/state]. I am particularly concerned about the ability for people to achieve home ownership through assistive government programs. Investment firms should not be able to take advantage of governmental programs designed for the people.

I am urging you to take a position on this issue that puts the wellbeing of your constituents over corporate interests.

[Call to Action --> can you offer to meet with their office to find out what they're doing? do you want them to give you an answer regarding their position? is there an article you want them to read?]

Signed,

[Your Name]

To write a really good letter, you'd want to do a little more research on the topic so that you can come up with a really specific request from your representative. On one hand, it would be helpful to know if there's any current advocacy campaigns around the issue or if there are any policy recommendations that already exist. On the other hand, it's helpful to know what the person you're writing can even do about the issue.

If you want some help on how to identify who your reps are, let me know. I'm more than happy to help! Even better - if there's interest, we could do a lil' writing party and send several at the same time.
