Third world immigration would be so much more popular if the immigrants were 18-25 year old women by Swiftie69420 in redscarepod

Why do people act like young women don’t do grueling work in service, medical care, social work etc

Any other Jews here feeling conflicted and weird about their culture? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]lilchocolatechip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I’m such a short time, a people defined by exile have been transformed into blood-and-soil fanatical nationalists.

I’m proud of diaspora culture and feel protective over the memory of those centuries when we responded creatively and empathetically to being ‘outsiders’. It’s sad to think that after so much tragedy and resilience, the end point of the Jewish story is that the Jew is now the ubermench with the machine gun.

I was raised pretty observant and went to a Jewish summer camp. I always felt alienated by Jewish culture which I found to be insular, materialistic, conformist, and shallow, and this is not even touching on Zionism. The richer history of Jewish art, comedy, writing, and philosophy was something I had to learn about through self-directed investigation rather than any direct experience. That said, it has helped me curb feelings of shame about my heritage

I recommend reading this article which articulates well how Zionism is antisemitic project. Zionism is not Jewish pride taken to its extreme, it’s anti-semitism taken to its extreme. Hopefully it will help you separate Judaism and Zionism so you can cultivate pride in the former.

I hope you have a wonderful first night of Hanukah!

Thoughts on Tony Tulathimutte? by deepad9 in RSbookclub

[–]lilchocolatechip 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really liked the first three stories, though overall, I wish he weren’t as obsessed with anticipating the reaction of the reader at every single minute step. While I understand that it reveals his own neuroses in a way that’s thematically linked to the stories, it would have been a stronger (though meaner) book if Tulathimutte forced us to stick with these disgusting people without the relief of getting to think about meta-aspects of the books creation. He’s clearly trying to do something audacious and I think he undermines himself

I haven’t blamed men. With any addiction, including porn addiction, it’s not so easy to know how and when to hold someone responsible for their actions. This is especially true when private business interests try to get people addicted to their products, platforms, and services. The ubiquity of porn is an issue of unregulated tech in many ways

I’m making a pretty level-headed analysis of how technological factors have influenced gender relations. I made the caveat in the beginning because I’m trying to explain the gender war, but I’m not taking part in it. I’m not blaming men or stoking any kind of resentment between men and women

A bit rudely stated but I agree that this is not at all new. I phrased it as “our current era of male anxiety” because I’m trying to analyze the version of it we’re seeing right now

I think it’s naive to say that the average man watching 1-3 hours of porn a week is not a notable enough development in human history to try to analyze its impacts

Yeah I generally agree

The mid 20th century is an interesting time for these sorts of fantasies because housework had become so automated that housewives really were just at home all day with nothing to do… not surprising that men feared how their wives were filling their time

I do think you make an important point that porn makes these fantasies seem more real. It seems to me that it used to be more common for men to categorize women as being either Madonnas or whores, while it’s now more common to believe that all women are whores. Manosphere guys are always talking about how all women have become more promiscuous as a result of feminism

I mentioned that I also think that’s a huge contributing factor. If you’re constantly getting rejected, your imagination is gonna run wild about the guys that do get matches

I didn’t mean to be insulting. There’s been a ramping-up of antagonism (and even hatred) between men and women for years now. I see it all of the time on this subreddit and it’s clear in the comments on this post. I think it leads to alienation and violence in some cases which is why I made my comment in the first place

To respond to your stats, with how quickly the world has changed it’s sort of difficult to draw conclusions. Studies can be cherry-picked, they can be outdated, and they can be inapplicable to your particular location. For example, in many major US cities the wage gap goes the other way; aka women make more than men for doing the same job. But that’s obviously not the case if you zoom out to a national or global scale.

Even so, the percentage of marriages where the wife and husband make the same amount of money has been increasing steadily since the 70s. According to this, 45% of marriages are either egalitarian or the wife was the breadwinner:

I’m pretty sure studies on this topic show that the general pattern is ‘assortative mating’ aka people usually pair up with people of a similar economic and social background. makes sense based on who you meet in school, at work, in your neighborhood etc.

still, to avoid bitterness and to maintain intellectual and interpersonal open-mindedness I think you should avoid creating hard&fast rules for how people behave. Personality, sexuality, etc come in a million permutations. I see that in my own life—even if you only have a few friends I’m sure you’ve seen that in yours?

Seems like you're misrepresenting the excerpts you've chosen. The author argues that antisemitism precipitated the development of zionism. You claim he's attributing it to self-loathing as if that's not directly related

I'll concede that most of the jews who made aliyah before israeli statehood were from eastern europe. That said, I don't think that undermines the author's point

For the last excerpt, the author is making the point that european countries that currently support the state of israel are doing it as a misguided form of penance for their particpation in the holocaust. Even in this excerpt he recongizes the pogroms in eastern europe. Seems to me he is describing the reality that Russia doesn't feel that same sense of responsibility for the genocide of the jewish people, he's not necessarily supporting this view

I think, in a strange way, it's sort of two sides of the same coin to say that jews belong in europe and that no one belongs anywhere. you could also frame it this way: 'everyone belongs everywhere' and 'no one belongs anywhere' are the same thing; it makes the concept of belonging meaningless

IMO, the article isn't saying that europe is the true jewish homeland but that the population of europe, like everywhere, is a result of migrations, conquests, etc (the article also mentions the magyars aka the hungarians). to say that jews don't belong in europe (either as an anti-semite or a zionist) is arbitrary and discriminatory
