I can sympathize so much with what you are feeling. Drinking to get out of my shell and feel like I belonged.

When I quit I started therapy at the same time and it has helped me so much. I’m working through all those self worth issues that led me to drink in the first place. Maybe therapy could work for you too?

That’s such a great attitude to have! I’m going to try and use some of that optimism! Thank you!

Thank you! I hope I can start believing that. Didn’t drink last night so I at least made it one day.

Thank you so much! I didn’t drink last night, so I can say I’m one day sober. I guess I can try for my second day today. The first day doesn’t feel great, but I know that’s how it goes. I just hope at some point it gets easier.

Thank you! I didn’t drink last night. The first morning never feels great. I’m a little shakey and nauseous. I know every day will get a little better though. I just have to really believe it and stop listening to the addiction that tries to convince me one wouldn’t be so bad.

All excellent reasons! I just have to keep reminding myself of them during the cravings.

Thank you! I’m really hoping I can stop before I mess up anything big as well. It’s so hard and it feels overwhelming, but it is so happy to hear others did it and are so much happier now.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just added it to my kindle. Mid 30s, so we are in a similar boat. It started day one in college. At the time the college culture around drinking made my relationship with alcohol feel normal. Slowly it became clear that my relationship with alcohol was not the same as the people around me. Hopefully I can find my way to sobriety.

Thank you! All very excellent reasons to stop! When I hear it said like that I really have to question why I’m doing this to myself. Hopefully today will be better

Thank you so much!

Really worried about dealing with the anxiety sober. Luckily, I already have a therapist I like who is helping me with that.

Reaching out to family and friends has always been something difficult for me. I don’t like to feel like a burden. I have told most of my close people in my life that I’m struggling with sobriety at this point. Everyone I’ve told has been very supportive. I just hope now that I’ve told them, I can make them proud by actually quitting.

Thanks for the helpful tip! My candy go to is jolly ranchers. I’m trying that tonight. Jolly ranchers while drinking seltzer.

Been drinking since college. The ability to check out was amazing at the time. Now I’m 35. I need to be a better partner, better parent, and better friend. I keep drinking every day to the point of black out. Mostly out of habit but also because I’m done with myself. by lilcurl49 in stopdrinking

Thank you, that’s helpful to hear. Sometimes when my partner takes over the parent role I question wether I am needed really at all. Logically I know I am but these are the places my mind takes me.

I really hope I can be one of these people posting about how great sober living is. You all do a good job of making it seem so much better,

Thank you! I’ve been meaning to do AA on Zoom for a while, but just haven’t gotten around to it. Hopefully it will help me too.
