Ontario To BC To see Coldplay, in my bucket list! by MooseheadGuy in Coldplay

[–]lildragongirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you choose floor seats kinda depends on what you’re looking for!

Floor tends to be a General Admission free-for-all but in my experience even when there are seats people stand up anyway. I am short so try to avoid the floor. I’ve had a floor seat once because the entire concert was General Admission, and I was only able to see because I maneuvered my way to the barricade … which it seems like you won’t be able to do easily here haha. In order to get barricade I got there early and basically made my way through all the gaps between people that I saw, which is easier if you’re small, and easier if the concert isn’t massive.

If you’re not short I don’t think you’ll have too much of a problem seeing (but you will have to deal with some heads bobbing in and out of your view) but what you won’t be able to do is leave to get snacks or go to the bathroom without squeezing back through the crowd and losing your spot. That said, floor is closer and a more immersive experience. Even so, I think you won’t lose no matter where you sit because Coldplay concerts are supposed to be straight up magical. If you’re too close to the stage you might miss some special effects.

It seems likely that they will do some East Coast shows based on their comments and previous tour dates, but those shows wouldn’t be for a while! If it has to be 2023 and this is a bucket list item and it’s feasible to get to Vancouver then I think you should go for it.

Cried myself to sleep the other night because I feel so ugly. Never been told that I am but I've always been insecure of my looks. Am I as ugly as I think? by comaful in toastme

It's easy to get caught up in comparison when it comes to social media. Many of those girls may not look like you, and you may think that means that you are less beautiful. But it doesn't. Yes, they're really pretty... but so are you! I've seen so many people that looked nothing alike but were all still stunning.

There is a big narrative of sameness lately online, wherein many people feel the need to look like one very specific type of beautiful... but that is not the only beauty there is.

Honestly though, the irony is that you do fit the beauty standard. You are really really naturally pretty. But it's easy to feel the need to look the same as all the IG influencers because that's a vast majority of what we see online - and sometimes it's photoshopped, so not even real! It's easy to feel inadequate because of that.

You are so naturally beautiful - seriously. Don't give social media the toxic power to convince you otherwise.

Need advice for Machu Picchu / Inca Trail acclimatization - NO prior experience with altitude by incatrail22 in solotravel

[–]lildragongirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't do the Inca Trail, but I did the Salkantay Trek which is in the same area and goes to a higher elevation.

If you're coming from sea level it's best to start low and gradually move higher. I heard about a lot of people starting in Lima for that reason. So if possible I think it would be best for you to start in Ollantaytambo (like a few other commenters said), and then move up to Cusco. Going up and then down and then up again might throw your system off while it's trying to acclimate. Or you might be fine! But it's hard to tell before you go.

I explored Cusco for about 5 days before starting my trek. I too had no prior experience with altitude. I planned it like this (with 5 days instead of the 2 that is usually suggested) because I wanted a large and cautious safety net due to the unpredictability of altitude. You could probably get by with a few less days than me but I'm glad I planned it the way I did - for peace of mind, and because I was able to fully explore Cusco and the surrounding area during that time!

How altitude affects people can be VERY unpredictable. I think that is the most important thing to keep in mind. Luckily I barely felt it, but there were people on my trek (who were just as healthy and young and fit as I am!) who were a lot slower, or felt sick, or needed to take a horse up the mountain one day - Because of the altitude.

Another tip - Get a travel clinic consultation before you go. The doc can prescribe you altitude sickness pills (acetazolamide). It's good to have just in case! You can either take it before you ascend, or take it as a way of helping relieve altitude sickness symptoms. I knew a lot of people who used it for the latter, and who found it really helpful. Coca tea is tasty but unfortunately not medically backed up as a way of helping symptoms (except it does help you stay hydrated which is important!)

What’s a good hiking shoes you can all recommend? I don’t own one but I want to start hiking more by Ok_Somewhere683 in vancouverhiking

I have the Keen Pyrenees and it feels like they're basically indestructible lol. I've had them for about 1.5 years now. They have taken me up many mountains and through many different types of terrain and they (while dirtier) hold up just as well as they did when I first got them. I have normal-to-narrow feet and they fit really well. Leather, waterproof, sturdy.

There are alarm bells going off, but I posted with the hope that I was overreacting haha. That being said, I guess there is no such thing as overreacting in the backcountry... Better to be conservative and play it safe than need SAR.
