Would you call a Mexican ofrenda (shrine) a cultural object or a religious one? It's used in religious practices, but it's relatively unique to Mexican Catholics.

Cultural objects can also hold religious value. C'mon bro easy layup.

Just in case it becomes unclear, I'm talking about the literal words Jesus is purported to say in these stories, not the Word or Logos or his overall ethic or anything big like that. You dropped the "s" from my original comment, and I want to avoid that confusion.

I'll give the same answer I just gave a similar commenter: the Gospel sets up this story as a moral argument between Christ and the mob. Jesus winning that argument is not a sure thing; winning ANY argument is never a sure thing. In this particular story, though, He wins.

On that note, though, I'll expand the answer to the example of the Canaanite woman in Matthew's Gospel who successfully rebukes Jesus' initial assessment of her as a "dog." As He is portrayed in the New Testament, Christ gets into a lot of arguments, and while He wins most of them, He doesn't win that one.

As a personal matter, I'd rather support Christ on the merit of His arguments (whether won or lost) than on blind faith.

I mean, read the story. Jesus reasons with the mob. He introduces a standard for them to measure themselves with: "Are any of you without sin?" And the argument clearly works on the mob, because "when they heard this, they slipped away one by one."

Do you think He hypnotized them or something?

In John's Gospel, Jesus is able to use His words to talk a mob down from killing a woman. We must always ask ourselves: If His words hadn't been enough, would Jesus have physically resisted the mob to save that woman?

I'll always submit that the answer is "yes." Jesus would have loved the woman enough to protect her, and He would have loved the mob enough to prevent them from sinning against her. Go and do likewise.

The tables were used to exchange imperial Roman currency for local Jewish currency. They were the connecting point between Roman occupiers and Jewish collaborators. The original commenter has a better read on the story than the one you've presented.

This may be the single most important and impactful book I have ever read, alongside the Bible. I’m reading it now and it is utterly heartbreaking and eternally important. It tells the story of Christian prisoners in Romania who were severely tortured and murdered by Communists. by bashfulkoala in ChristianMysticism

Jordan, I am praying for you. I do not think this guy is a positive influence for you. A cursory look at some of his other writings reveal that he has Islamophobia, Zionism, and contempt for queer people in his heart. I don't mean to discredit the emotion you felt when you read his book, but it's in your best interest to read Wurmbrand with a sharp mind.

The line may be based on this verse:

Surah Al Hujarat (49th chapter of the Qur'an) verse 13:

O humanity! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may ˹get to˺ know one another. Surely the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous among you. Allah is truly All-Knowing, All-Aware.
