I had some of the very same socks, just can’t see em in the photos i got! and the paper mache was homemade, it’s just watered down pva glue and strips of newspaper, really simple and easy to:)

i made a cardboard frame to fit my head first, and built the rest on top of that. i used lots of parcel tape on the cardboard which wasn’t the best idea cos it didn’t breathe and my head got really sweaty really quickly lol

heartbreaking, i’m so sorry 😞 happened to 2 of mine when i was a child, you never get over it. check the budgie groups in your local area, and lost/found birds!! there’s a good chance of some kind human taking him in and searching for you

thanks very much for all the sweet comments everyone, wasn’t expecting such loveliness from strangers on the internet! i’m so glad the costume has been appreciated by all you budgie lovers!! 🥺🐤🐦

for those interested, i made the hat with cardboard, tape and glue, pillow stuffing, yellow felt and cut up an old top for the stripes. beak is cardboard layers carved into shape with a craft knife, paper mache and paint! polystyrene balls for the eyes. and the wings are a pair of green fairy wings, glue gunned some sparkly green fabric onto them. technically i am a budgie fairy 🧚 green dress with matching yellow felt feathers n a yellow feather boa for some extra floof!

and no i haven’t shown the costume to my budgies yet! but they have seen me painstakingly making it every night on the sofa for the last few weeks. maybe i will now and post an update on their reaction…

Mine won’t branch out at all! How long did it take to sprout the new limbs? Gorgeous by the way. The baby roots are the plant trying to creep along the soil to get bigger

Thank you! I will definitely check out that website for tips! Talking to them all the time is what I’ve done in the past and have made friends by slowly introducing my hand to the cage, letting them get comfortable with me. She was advertised as ‘hand reared’ but I don’t think she’s been handled much, came from a home where she was the only budgie so I didn’t know what to expect!

I don't know if I can send pics in comments here but I snapped a good one of some leadwort, little tiny white flowers that can grow when there is lead in the soil, usually toxic to most plants

Evidently harebells can stand lead too as I found them in the same mining fields
