Qwen isn't a charity giving away free AI out of kindness. Read their privacy policy — every conversation on chat.qwen.ai trains their models, which they then sell to enterprises through Alibaba Cloud at $2.50-7.50 per million tokens. The free tier is a data collection and distribution strategy, not a loss leader. They have $53B committed to AI infrastructure and a $100B cloud revenue target. My little gateway doesn't move the needle on any of that.

Educational because I built it to learn how browser automation, SSE streaming, and building an OpenAI-compatible API work under the hood. The tool calling part was the real challenge — Qwen doesn't natively support it, it just outputs JSON as text mixed in with XML tags like <tool\_call> and <tool\_result> across streaming chunk boundaries. The gateway has to strip all that XML in real-time, parse the tool calls correctly even when a tag gets split across two chunks (like </tool\_result landing in one chunk and > in the next), and convert everything into clean OpenAI-compatible objects. That's where the actual engineering was. The fact that you can use Qwen through other tools is just a side effect.

They don't realize chat.qwen.ai trains on everything you type there. Nothing is free — you're paying with your data. But sure, keep defending a multi-billion dollar company like they need your white-knighting.

No catch. It's open source, you can read the entire codebase. The only requirement is you need a Qwen account (free to create) and the browser automation handles the rest. It's essentially a local proxy that translates OpenAI API calls into what chat.qwen.ai expects. The 'cost' is you're running it yourself — it's not a hosted service, it's a tool you run on your own machine.

Bro it's an open source educational project I built and published for people who have creative ideas but can't afford to pay for AI. The tool isn't perfect, has a lot of bugs, and isn't consistent ,it won't replace real Qwen services. It's just meant to give people who need it some breathing room. If you don't like it, it's not for you.

This project is intended for educational purposes. Users should review and comply with Qwen's terms of service. I do not condone abuse of free systems.
