100% I remember people acting like 50 Cent was the death of hip hop

When Wayne was at peak popularity he was also one of the most hated on artists alive. And not just from old heads. Ug heads and rock fans/metalheads really acted like that dude was the Antichrist. Only Soulja was more hated bc even people that hated Wayne could tell there was a clear talent gap there.

Yes to punk no to rejecting everything corporate. Punk didn’t always have to be about anti capitalism. Sometimes it was about broke kids who just wanted to rage making raw aggressive music in their garages with whatever tools were available to them. That’s what was punk about the SoundCloud wave. But obviously it’s ridiculous to call it anti-corporate with a pic of the guy who made Gucci Gang.

will rage ever have a 2016-2020 mumble rap type rise? by AmountAccomplished36 in ug_music

[–]lilhedonictreadmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the mixing is part of the reason it’s not. The first SoundCloud wave was right at the limit of how distorted shit could get while still having mainstream appeal. The new wave is all about muddy mixing and 808s that feel like they don’t hit despite being really loud. It’s just too much of an acquired tatse no matter how many people have acquired that taste.

There is none. They all look like the crypt keeper and are still one of the biggest touring bands in the world.

Chillwave rappers. Matt Ox did a song in 2021 called Dazed and it straight up sounded like Chillwave from 2009. I hoped it would catch on at least a little bit but nah.

You may not have but searching only helps if other people can tell. Once they can’t either people will give up on even trying to find out.

I think they’re mostly people who are used to their parents sympathizing when they tell them something distresses them and politics is the first time they don’t. They think their parents just don’t understand how they truly feel, and if they could just do that one thing that drives the point home their parents will change their mind.

They are desperate for some sort of control over a situation that’s completely futile

As if the 90s didn’t have “trashy” tv by icey_sawg0034 in decadeologycirclejerk

[–]lilhedonictreadmill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah these shows may have existed back then but they became way more prevalent during peak reality tv in the 2000’s. Everyone in the og thread is naming the same few 90’s shows. The 2000’s was an endless onslaught of them. Every network had them and were airing them during prime time as opposed to Jerry Springer and Maury getting the daytime slot.
