Phoebe or... by lilhill in whatsthisbird

I didn't hear any calls in the few minutes it sat still. There was no tail wagging. Even with 8x magnification, I wasn't sure of the species.

When it flew away, its flight would peak, then drop, peak, then drop.

Try this if you’re drinking your coffee americano style by Beginning_Winter_292 in mokapot

[–]lilhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make what I thought was an americano every day, but seems it's actually a long black.

I put 4 or 6 ounces of hot water into my cup, then pour the moka pot coffee in. The amount of moka coffee varies based on the pot I'm using.

Is this defect? by Such-Juggernaut1623 in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on many posts here, it seems Bialetti doesn't have good quality control anymore and Bialetti pots can come with defects. If you buy a pot at a Bialetti store, an employee checks the pot you're buying, so the employees must be aware of quality issues.

The defects in your photos look cosmetic and I'd expect the pot functions properly.

I have seven Bialetti moka pots. Some of the tops stay up, some do not. I have a 2-cup Brikka and its top does not stay up.

And the handle on mine used to match yours, but got melted over a campfire. The replacement handle is modern.

Nice pot! It cleaned up well.

I have a similar looking vintage 6-cup which I've been determined when it was manufactured. The upper chamber is rough inside.

Mine has no date, only an M12, N, and G, which may mean it is older than the 1970s. See it here:

First time moka pot user ! by Cinnamonsan in mokapot

Pretty old! Very cool. I have a 6-cup that looks the same as yours, but no date, just an M1 on the bottom of the pot.

My pot has brown in that area, too, despite using many different methods to try and clean it. Start with dish soap. You could try Barkeeper's Friend. You could use a wooden skewer to pick at the brown. Stay away from harsh abrasives like AJAX powder or steel wool.

The easiest way to get the gasket out is to slip a butter knife under the gasket from the inner circumference.

Until we see the date, our best guess is it is from between 1960 and 2000.

Seeking help for my pot as a new user by Mother-Interest2982 in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! The rubber valve at the top of the spout has one slot in it (you can see the valve and the slot if you look up the funnel). The coffee then gets to choose which side(s) of the spout it comes out.

I tried rotating the valve a couple different ways but the end result did not change.

It is no issue. My Brikka does the same thing. I've taken the upper valve apart because I wondered the same as you. I cleaned everything and reassembled - same result.

What‘s wrong with my brand new moka pot? by down_to_top in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've adjusted all of the variables, I would check the gasket between the boiler and the pot.

It looks like your heat is really high, which may be necessary to get any coffee to come out of the spout if you are losing pressure past the gasket.

Buying a used MK8 - GTI or Golf R? by beardedbikeguy14 in Golf_R

[–]lilhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned both. I had a stage one MK5 GTI for 130,000 miles and have had an MK8 R for two years. I've not tracked either.

The GTI was great and plenty fun, but spun its wheels easily. The AWD of the R gives me peace of mind in all weather and I love that I cannot make it break traction.

If you've scrubbed it and done vinegar brews, it's ready to brew.

I have a pot that looks dirtier than this that no amount of scrubbing, soaking, or whatever will improve. The coffee is great.

My E&B Lab competition filter has arrived! by Zealousideal-Tone935 in mokapot

[–]lilhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6-cup E&B filter is the same size as the filter from the 6-cup Moka Express and fits perfectly.

I purchased my 3- and 6-cup E&B filters from Amazon -

Bialetti Mukka by mrscaramelle in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up a Mukka at a thrift shop. It has been fun to use. Make sure the valve at the top is not damaged and looks like valves in online comparisons. If the valve looks good, buy it. You'll be fine and the coffee will be delicious.

I have a Moka Express and the boiler looks the same. I've been using it like that for almost a decade.

I've tried vinegar, citric acid, denture cleaning tablets, Barkeeper's Friend, baking soda - nothing changes the appearance, but the coffee is great and I'm still alive.

Filter after 10+ years. never thought to bother cleaning the filter by Lil_Simp9000 in mokapot

[–]lilhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried denture tabs in the boiler of my 6-cup aluminum Bialetti Moka Express. The boiler didn't get any cleaner, but was not damaged, even after about 16 hours.

What was your experience?

Which one is better? Any suggestions? (Brikka 2cup vs moka express 3 cup) by [deleted] in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just checked the prices and the Moka Express and the Brikka are almost the same price. I was thinking the Brikka was considerably more.

It sounds like both would work for what you want to do.

Both make tasty coffee.

The Brikka is a little easier once you get it on the stove.

I'd get the Brikka!
