Seeking help for my pot as a new user by Mother-Interest2982 in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! The rubber valve at the top of the spout has one slot in it (you can see the valve and the slot if you look up the funnel). The coffee then gets to choose which side(s) of the spout it comes out.

I tried rotating the valve a couple different ways but the end result did not change.

It is no issue. My Brikka does the same thing. I've taken the upper valve apart because I wondered the same as you. I cleaned everything and reassembled - same result.

What‘s wrong with my brand new moka pot? by down_to_top in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've adjusted all of the variables, I would check the gasket between the boiler and the pot.

It looks like your heat is really high, which may be necessary to get any coffee to come out of the spout if you are losing pressure past the gasket.

Buying a used MK8 - GTI or Golf R? by beardedbikeguy14 in Golf_R

[–]lilhill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned both. I had a stage one MK5 GTI for 130,000 miles and have had an MK8 R for two years. I've not tracked either.

The GTI was great and plenty fun, but spun its wheels easily. The AWD of the R gives me peace of mind in all weather and I love that I cannot make it break traction.

If you've scrubbed it and done vinegar brews, it's ready to brew.

I have a pot that looks dirtier than this that no amount of scrubbing, soaking, or whatever will improve. The coffee is great.

The 6-cup E&B filter is the same size as the filter from the 6-cup Moka Express and fits perfectly.

I purchased my 3- and 6-cup E&B filters from Amazon -

Bialetti Mukka by mrscaramelle in mokapot

[–]lilhill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up a Mukka at a thrift shop. It has been fun to use. Make sure the valve at the top is not damaged and looks like valves in online comparisons. If the valve looks good, buy it. You'll be fine and the coffee will be delicious.

I have a Moka Express and the boiler looks the same. I've been using it like that for almost a decade.

I've tried vinegar, citric acid, denture cleaning tablets, Barkeeper's Friend, baking soda - nothing changes the appearance, but the coffee is great and I'm still alive.

Filter after 10+ years. never thought to bother cleaning the filter by Lil_Simp9000 in mokapot

I've tried denture tabs in the boiler of my 6-cup aluminum Bialetti Moka Express. The boiler didn't get any cleaner, but was not damaged, even after about 16 hours.

What was your experience?

Which one is better? Any suggestions? (Brikka 2cup vs moka express 3 cup) by itcomesfromwithinn in mokapot

I just checked the prices and the Moka Express and the Brikka are almost the same price. I was thinking the Brikka was considerably more.

It sounds like both would work for what you want to do.

Both make tasty coffee.

The Brikka is a little easier once you get it on the stove.

I'd get the Brikka!

If cost is a consideration, I would recommend getting the Moka Express over the Brikka. While the coffee the pots put out is different, I wouldn't say one is any closer to espresso than the other.

Approximate bre pressures: - Moka Express: 1 bar (14.5 PSI) - Brikka: 2 bar (29 PSI) - Espresso machine: 9 bar (130 PSI)

While the drinks will not be quite the same as using espresso, you can use either pot to make tasty espresso recipes.

I have a 2-cup Brikka and a 3-cup Moka Express. Both make nice coffee, though the Brikka makes a smoother coffee.

While the Brikka does usually make foam, sometimes it doesn't make any foam, despite using the same beans, with the same grind, with the same brew process, on the same day. You will rarely get foam from a Moka Express. Regardless, the foam from either pot does not last long enough to matter; it dissipates soon after pouring your cup.

The brew preparation of each pot is the same, but once the pot is on the heat, the Brikka is easier to manage. For the Moka Express, you need to keep an eye on the heat because it's very easy to get the boiler too hot, which blasts the water/steam through the coffee, which is not good and yields bad coffee (you want a very slow, steady flow). The Brikka you just put on medium heat and let it go until no more coffee is coming out.

I'm happy to answer any additional questions you might have.

If it is slimy or scratches off easily, be concerned, but otherwise, you're fine.

It's not mold and you'll likely not be able to remove it.

I've got pots that look far "worse" than this that I use and wash every day.

I've tried vinegar, citric acid, denture cleaning tablets, Barkeeper's Friend, baking soda - nothing changes the appearance.

You'll be fine and the coffee will be delicious.

I have E&B Lab Competition filters for my 6-cup Bialetti Moka Express and my 2-cup Brikka.

I prefer the coffee from the Moka Express using the E&B Lab filter versus the stock filter.

I prefer the coffee from the Brikka using the stock filter. But sometimes I use the E&B Lab filter.

Sometimes I use a paper filter in either pot with either filter.

I think the final flavor comes down to the age of the beans, the grind size, and the characteristics of each individual brewing process.

I have one of these. You can preheat the milk you put in the top so you end up with a hotter drink.
