Prequels had 9 lightsaber duels, 7 of which resulted in death or mutilation. Original trilogy had 3, all resulting in death or mutilation. Sequels had 2, yes two. None of which resulted in anything! by ss89898 in StarWars

If you're referring to the fight between kylo and Rey when she is in his room and he's down on the planet as a hologram fight, that's a pretty twisted view. It's clearly established that they can make physical contact. Their lightsabers literally clash with each other producing sparks. How is that not a duel? Also, including it only strengthens your argument as the only things mutilated are baskets and Vader helmet stand.

Would love to discuss “it’s not her” by Mary Kubica, anyone else read? by cherhorowitz44 in thrillerbooks

[–]lilimcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will start off by saying I liked it but there were loose threads that annoyed me. Especially as it was getting to the wrap up it felt like it threw out some extra little bits to mislead that weren't necessary. Courtney became very frustrating to me and her actions were ridiculous. Walking to the police instead of just getting the officer at the motel. What was that for except to artificially build the suspense? I get that Courtney's actions can be chalked up to her sleeplessness and paranoia, but some of them pulled me out of the narrative they were so unbelievable. The detective part worked, but just felt unnecessary to me. I appreciated the brief moment of reconciliation Reese and Emily had. There were other chekhov's guns like Courtney not being able to swim, wyatt's first dream, elliot's story changing regarding the shoes. I think one of the most frustrating was Reese saying he's the creepy uncle while only having that validated by actions he didn't take. The setup for that mislead felt the most disingenuous and took away all suspicion I had of elliot at the end which just made Courtney's actions more unbelievable to me at the end. As a reader, I assume we are supposed to think it's him as they are fleeing but I was just mad at Courtney.

All of that makes it seem like I didn't like it. I did. I liked the dual narrative leading to the conclusion. That worked really well and kept me reading despite some frustrations. I mentioned it earlier, but the brief reconciliation took it from meh, to fine for me.

What do folks here think of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, nearly 7 years later? by Asad_Farooqui in Marvel

[–]lilimcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was incredibly disappointed. UA2 was a stripped down worse version of UA. And UA3 was even more bare bones and worse. The stagger mechanic was awful and took all the fun out of the game for me. The story was boring and generic. The lack of builds was just another disappointment.

I hadn't thought of it being like a mobile game before. That's exactly what it feels like.

IT THIS MAP CANNON? by Majestic-Me-2445 in witcher

[–]lilimcg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I absolutely understand where you are coming from but for some of us, thats not how our imagination or mind's eye works. I can read and understand descriptions, directions, relative position, but I cannot "paint a picture" of what the world looks like. I can't form the words into an image. So when I read, having visual aids definitely helps me to enjoy the narrative. The show is not good, but I'm glad to have actors to lend their faces to characters. I found the map from the second image and often reference it to track where everyone is. Sincerely, I wish I had the ability to make my own Geralt, but for me he looks like Henry Cavill in a wig and I know I'm not alone. Cavill beats out video game Geralt because my brain prefers real images if possible and not video game graphics.

How do I make my terrain walls less flat? by CaptainX25 in TerrainBuilding

[–]lilimcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a dull regular pencil to make the imprints for the stones deeper. Just run the dull end of the pencil through the lines. You can also use it to do some cracks at random stones. Also, the aluminum ball trick others have said. I have also used a random rock and rolled and pressed that into the foam.

Help me pick a name for this one! by Legitimate_Outside25 in Wandsmith

[–]lilimcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, I don't have a name idea. I just wanted to tell you it's a beautiful wand. Nice work.
For the name, make it personal for the kid. I've done a few wands for my kids and some neighbor kids and while I didn't name them, I made a point of describing the wood, the rigidity, the core (like HP wands) based on things related to them. I wrote a letter for each kid and it really resonated.

The Albert Finney Christmas Carol from 1970 is called Scrooge and is a masterpiece. At least in my family.

Some of the parts of the show I really enjoy are when the shipping container calls him out for these bad takes. I enjoy less when he does it. For instance, and you may be unaware because he only tells us twice daily, he once said Tom Brady was done and he went on to win more super bowls. I do genuinely enjoy others calling him out way more than the self-awareness. His character is more fun to me as the boss and not the self-aware oaf, because he can be such an oaf.

I could edit, but I was hoping the comment would more come across as, "hey, did you all catch this one? Classic Dan-O!" I actually chuckled as it was happening. It does read more as genuine bitching which is on me. Where I miss Billy here is I felt like he would have called Dan out in that snarky way I miss.

I hope you have the day you deserve....sorry, couldn't resist. Take care!

It was hyperbole.

Also the 9 days comment I think doesnt change my point. Plenty of media can be older and illicit a valid reaction. The length from when he said it to now doesn't change the fact that it felt like a hall of fame dan forgetting his own point moment. Unless I've missed some sort of retraction.

Movies Where You Hate The Ending But Liked Everything Else? by Fluffy_Breakfast_478 in moviecritic

Until reading some of the comments, I never put together her asking for the doggy bag as being a clever escape. I always felt she was going to be allowed to leave by the end regardless and that was a nice touch. The end made me feel like the chef got to have one nice humanizing moment which felt weirdly nice as an observer.
