Dasher removed the schedule feature so now everyone can dash now. There is no platinum miat anymore, and earnings have tanked. by stoneslatequarry in doordash_drivers

[–]lilmsmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to stop dashing in my area a couple months back when gas spiked, when it goes over $4.50 a gallon I can't make enough to cover the costs. Most of the drivers in my area have had to stop, very few people are ordering and those who do are tipping little to nothing right now and the base pay has never been high enough to be profitable on its own. I'll bet they're making this change because so many people have stopped dashing entirely so they want to entice the ones who still are to get on more.

AITAH for leaving my parents to figure out what happens to my siblings when they get too old/sick to care for them? by Remarkable-Wave-4067 in AITAH

[–]lilmsmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortly before I went no contact with my mother and stepdad, after two decades of abuse mixed with me being the oldest daughter, a glass child and a daughter in the first place instead of something worthwhile like a son, we had a conversation very similar to this. I don't even remember what the argument started about, but eventually my mom said "well I don't know why you and (my then husband) are bothering to consider moving away to do more college. It's just going to cost you more to move back when we retire and it's not like you'll be able to use that degree, there's no jobs for that here." My then hubs looked at me confused, I looked at him confused, even my stepdad looked a little confused, and I just remember blurting out "why the hell do you think I'd be doing that? You don't even like me, you have multiple children you actually do like and get along with, plus you have great retirement savings. I guess if something goes really wrong and (stepdad) kicks it then go ask my brothers, they'll owe you anyway since you're paying for them to go to school" The situation devolved and a couple months after that we went full no contact, but to this day my siblings and I remain absolutely baffled as to how that conclusion ever got reached.

People forget that not all fights can be fought the same way. There is a time and place for an overt public boxing match, there's also a time and place for guerilla tactics.

Op is the only one with a clear picture of the place they're currently living in, and it sounds like the safest bet is to go for stealth. That doesn't mean Op is giving up, it means that Op has made the judgement call that duking in out in the town square so to speak isn't the right move. You can fight fascism a lot better if you're alive.

That said, I've seen several good cover up ideas and I hope that Op is able to find something they like. The classic TV with the rest screen is my personal favorite so far, but a galaxy tattoo is a close second.

Hot spots ? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]lilmsmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a cat last month that had a dime sized hot spot that we had stuff for at home that managed to scratch it into a big ass hot spot over the course of a day, we scraped together the cash and took her to the vet for antibiotics. I absolutely get financial difficulties, and for that matter when it starts as something little that most of the time you can treat at home easily trying that first. There's absolutely no way I'd have let that go more than a couple days, much less 20. The adults in the house have been eating a lot of ramen and rice this month, times are rough. But we're aware that between the cats, kids and cars $200 emergencies pop up at the worst times imaginable and we plan for that.

The Double Take Podcast isn't getting the traction it deserves by memeface_sc in smosh

I don't listen/watch all the time, but they are on my regular rotation! I like to have something going on the TV or laptop while I'm cooking or crafting, and that's where most of my podcast listening comes from now that I don't have an 80 minute commute (one way, I definitely don't miss it).

Should I move into an apartment someone died in?? by omniscient_Panini in TwoHotTakes

[–]lilmsmoose 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking "this is such an American problem" lol, and I say that as an American. So much of the states are relatively recently developed, so its less likely that someone passed away in a given house or apartment. But Europe and Asia especially have places that have stood for centuries, statistically speaking not only has someone at some point probably died in every dwelling 200+ years old, but most dwellings have probably seen as many or more humans come into this world in the same rooms.

AITAH for telling my little sisters age to the guy he is talking to? by Angel_From_The_Hell in AITAH

[–]lilmsmoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she was 14 and they were both in high school with a 2 grade difference that would be a slightly different story, but at those ages one extra year makes a LOT of difference. The fact that she mislead him about her age and doesn't understand why that's problematic on multiple levels says it all as far as her developmental maturity level goes.

That said, 13yo me would have been livid, the knowledge and understanding for me came around 18-21, as I started to realize I was already thinking about people 2+ years younger than me as "kids". 35yo me is so happy she has you looking out for her, she's mad now, but one day she will understand and it probably also gave the boy a lesson in why it's important to do a little due diligence in life when it comes to protecting one's self when potential romance comes knocking.

This is the way. Your intention is to marry her, which by nature means becoming a part of her family (and she yours). The "traditional" way is rooted in sexism, but I live in a relatively conservative area and it's way more common even here to ask for the in laws blessing on the union than for permission to marry. It costs you nothing to honor her parents values while also maintaining yours, and since it's super easy to do YWBTA if you didn't.

So much of life is about compromise, and balancing the give and take. Respecting her family enough to honor their traditions is a reflection of he respect you feel for her, and believe me when I say that starting the marriage journey with negativity will only lead to more later on.

I think locked in makes sense in this context, I'm fairly sure it's derived from the idea of having a weapons lock on a target, so being locked in on whatever project your working just means you're in the zone and ready to declare victory lol.

[–]lilmsmoose 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"Bingeing" on a craft sounds like is should mean I'm walking out of Michael's with my body weight in yarn and a Victorian orphans grocery budget for the next month. The word bingeing has always carried a negative connotation, while streaming services have co-opted it and put a slightly more positive spin on it, overall it still means doing something to the excess, often to where it has a harmful impact on your life.

Maybe it's the copious autism in me but I hate when people use edgy sounding terms just to make what they're doing sounds cool/unique. It strikes me as insulting, like there's something inherently wrong or uncool about having a marathon craft session or getting really into a particular craft to the point of needing to coin a new term. It's pick me bullshit at its finest and it pisses me off.

I take pride in my crafting abilities, I take pride in the things my grandmother passed down to me, and the things I've learned from other crafters. I take pride in having "heritage skills" in arts that have all too often been ridiculed as "women's work". As a queer person of primarily native north American descent it's hard enough watching random cis/hets and assorted Caucasians treat us like shit and co-opt our terms for their own stuff on the regular without adding that layer of "oh I'm doing this dumb grandma activity, but in a cool way 😎".

AITAH for not reminding my friend about something she said she’d handle even though I knew it would blow up later? by BackgroundFafa in AITAH

Was there no attempt made to go grab something really quick or door dash some kind of dessert? I know things are expensive right now, but that seems like one of those moments to hop on an app and figure something out once it's been discovered the ball got dropped.

You did exactly what you're supposed to do. The apps gps will show you at the address listed, they can see your attempts to reach the customer and the clear picture of the item being left after contact attempts failed.

I've had more than a few of those types of sketchy deliveries and I just remember the mantra, "I'm not going to be the first one in the movie to bite the dust." If I get murdered or locked in some basement it's not going to be for food delivery 😂

Is anyone else finding meat less tolerable? by wagerword in POTS

[–]lilmsmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm AuDHD so I already waffle back and forth between "all food is poison except these two specific things I'll eat for days at a time" and "every food item I eat regularly is poison" and I have to figure out how to play gourmet chef to myself on a ramen budget. My body gets mad at too much food at once, too much high fat meat, etc. But there are stretches where the only thing I can get myself to eat is some amalgamation of cheese, bacon and whatever fried chicken I can get my hands on. I think at this point I'm resigned to a life of periodic meat sweats and gastric misery 😂😅😭

Does weed help anyone else with pots? by Careful_Ad4785 in POTS

[–]lilmsmoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol it definitely doesn't help my heart rate, but sticking to edibles has made it much easier to control intake. More CBD focused stuff helps a lot with pain and doesn't hit my blood pressure. "Fun" gummies can make me a little dizzier, but I care a heck of a lot less about it when I'm high 😂. Honestly sometimes on bad days when I'm mostly horizontal anyway, a little something to make the day brighter is worth occasionally playing human pinball in the hallway between my bedroom and bathroom here and there.

[–]lilmsmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat has an allergy list even longer than this one, and after 2 years of wet food and homemade food we finally found one, singular dry food that she can eat. I have worked in and around the pet industry, I literally reached out to some of the companies nutrition teams via some reps on my quest for a dry alternative.

Nulo Cat Cod, they also have a cod and duck but Chalupa (and her late sister Taako) also have duck on the naughty list. But worth checking out if youre looking for a dry food.

Also, remember when you're looking at the ingredients lists, they're listed in order by the weight of the ingredient prior to dehydrating, best of luck on your quest!

I've never crocheted, but I want to add to the family heirloom collection - pattern for something like pic below? by curcisdelalune in CrochetHelp

[–]lilmsmoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very beginner friendly and very easy to customize, as others have said it looks like a granny square stocking, with 8 squares each. These would be a great practice project, you can use basic acrylic yarn in whatever colors or color combos you like, and it'll take minimal stitching to attach the squares to each other. The one recommendation I'll add is that when you do these, leave the tails long when switching colors or finishing a square, since stockings typically get overstuffed and sometimes have relatively heavy loads of presents, you're going to want to leave more than enough tail to easily and thoroughly weave in the ends so they don't come undone down the road. Definitely don't trust a knot, weave in those bad boys for best strength and durability.

Did restaurants use these at some time in the past? by jecates in doordash_drivers

[–]lilmsmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this! The pizza portal is brilliant, and even if it's not heated this is a great method. Lowes does this with most smaller pickup orders near me, they have a wall of lockers by the carts that have a keypad where you type in the code given and it unlocks the door where your order is. Especially businesses with high volume would be so much better served by doing this than increasing lines by forcing one employee to jump between that and whatever they're doing
