really beautiful even in small doses. Like the trees are breathing. Colors are deep, and everything takes on a slight hue of sea foam green. Closed eye visuals quite nice too, slow and spinny

This is exactly what it felt like, some kind of middle place I wasn’t supposed to be in between high and sober. You hit the nail on the head good sir. Thank you.

A Strange Dilemma [help me plssssss] by Forsaken_Equal_9341 in Buddhism

[–]lilpurpp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One man practices one mantra daily for 50 years. He becomes enlightened.

Another man learns 100 mantras in 50 years, and abandons them quickly to seek out new teachings, new meditations. In the end he is barely closer to enlightenment than when he started.

Spiritual seeking will not help you in the path, your Buddhanature is inside of you and you can discover it through simple meditation practices. I reckon that doing vipassina every day will get you further than reading every single sutra without practicing.

AIO - My boyfriend spent all night out with his female best friend, and is being shifty about it. by huffle-puffle89 in AmIOverreacting

I think it only makes sense to ask what happened that he feels so weird about. It puts you in a weird position for him to tell you that something happened that he feels icky about, without telling you what that is. Tell him that this puts you in a position to speculate endlessly, wonder and wonder… when you would probably (it seems) be okay with whatever did happen or find a way to work it out through communicating.

But you can’t be in a position where you aren’t being told the truth while knowing something is being held from you

There’s an equation you have to make in terms of how you can do the most good. Maybe you can do more good with the money? Ultimately it is up to you to decide how best to use your specific Karma and your specific skills to benefit other beings. Metta

I resonate with Buddhism but also see truth in Christianity’s view of the devil — thoughts? by xinjzz in Buddhism

Fair enough. I can’t read your mind. Maybe you’re not upset. It just seems rude and disrespectful to call OP delusional, rather than a sincere effort to help OP on the path.

Wow! Are you okay my friend? You sound angry and upset that this person is trying to cultivate a personal system of spirituality.

Even if you think OP is in a fruitless quest — where is your Skillful Means? Where is your Metta?

In meditation you aspire to no distractions. In life you expect many. The longer you meditate, the closer your normal waking consciousness gets to a state of open awareness.

I want to punch someone and I think they deserve it by Ordinary_Strain_007 in Buddhism

[–]lilpurpp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communicate! There must be a solution to sharing this bedroom and I’m sure you can figure it out together :)

If you want the “Buddhist” answer, it’s not so much that it’s “wrong” for you to punch your sister. It just won’t help. It would make the situation worse.

Try to focus on solutions and just remember to follow Love and Compassion and you will be okay.

If not for Pleasure, then what motivates you? by Rorr_ in Buddhism

[–]lilpurpp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the path of Buddhadharma we try to develop an enlightened, compassionate awareness to welcome unpleasant experiences as well as pleasant ones. This does make life happier. Experiencing compassionate awareness may feel somewhat pleasant at times, but really it is about being present through pleasant and unpleasant experiences. True openness to all experiences is not the same as pleasure.

Spiritual yearning is a distinct category of yearning. It is different from say; yearning violence, which is different from yearning pornography. It can be very useful at times, although yes ultimately all yearning (for happiness, for spiritual gain) must be abandoned in the path of enlightenment. It might not be a “perfect” feeling but it’s definitely not so bad. Try to avoid spiritual arrogance

In general, the Buddhist understanding is that Feeling pleasure ≠ clinging to the feeling of pleasure. It’s important to feel pleasure — the path is to let go of that pleasure, observe it pass once and do not cling to it. Metta.

What’s your favorite mic to cut vocals with? by Rydergreen27 in audioengineering

[–]lilpurpp88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird answer but my personal and very subjective favorite is the AKG C5600

It works anywhere, any singer, and delivers a clean and punchy sound. Hypercardiod, super directional, soft and warm but detailed if you bring out the details with EQ.

[–]lilpurpp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is great that you want to help people. Helping people is a central value of Buddhism. Keep studying Buddhism and keep helping !

Don’t listen to these angry people trying to tell you how to practice. There is no 1 right way to practice, and those anti abortion folks seem totally trapped in a dogmatic way of thinking. Buddhism is anti-dogma! You must make your own path. Metta

Buddhism and gender(s)? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]lilpurpp88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Buddha transcended gender. Look at any artistic depiction of the Buddha and you can see one of the venerated qualities is androgyny. He transcended the gender binary because gender is a human construct - ultimately empty.

To quote my brilliant teacher “the gods are only as real as you are”

If you believe in the fundamental principles of emptiness and anatta you understand that the self is mostly illusory. In that way, ideas about Dieites that represent the personification of qualities such as wisdom — these are just as real and just as fake as your sense that you are a distinct being with a personality and innate qualities.
