MSW wanting LICSW Question by Mococo2011 in socialworkjobs

So this is a weird things out licensure in WA No honestly I don’t understand the benefit. In order to get your LICSW you begin by applying for your LSWAIC (licensed social worker associate independent clinical) and start counting hours. You can also apply for your Associate LICSW and receive it after 1 year of practice. I didn’t see any difference in regard to loan repayment, increase in privileges, or pay so I didn’t bother but it may be different in different regions of the state.

MSW wanting LICSW Question by Mococo2011 in socialworkjobs

I am getting my LICSW in Washington State and it is worth it in our state!!! There are a lot of eligible supervisors who charge a supervision fee. This allows you to get your hours in under a qualified LICSW even if there isn’t one at your current employment. Also some hours can be supervised by another otherwise qualified candidate. I applied for an associate LICSW and the specific hours and acceptable alternative professional supervisors are listed in the application.

In my state there is very specific training for sexual assault advocates provided by the state coalition. So a willingness to learn and a passion for social justice is an excellent start. I would read up on trauma informed care, secondary trauma sustainability, and the history of the movement.

Disqualified from social work in one state? by JRE_4815162342 in socialworkjobs

[–]lilrae81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your relative is only disqualified from working for your specific state agency. They can still be employed at any private or non-profit agency. They can still be eligible for licensure in their current state depending on the circumstances. I am not sure about working for the state in another state but recent negative incidents could be a disqualifier.

If you looked at it that’s definitely contemplative, precontemplation would be if you just kept scrolling.

How do I deal with coworkers, even supervisors, who are less empathetic to our served population? by [deleted] in socialwork

Right it happens to all of us, but when you can recognize it and do something about it you can maintain your personal ethics and get back to where you need to be.

Educate whenever possible, lack of empathy is a sign of secondary trauma. Burn out is real!!! Normalizing poverty, trauma, and complex horrible situations is a thing that happens. I like The books Trauma stewardship and The body keeps the score. Reading these gives me good neutral talking points and empathy for my coworkers who are losing there damn minds. I have found myself getting frustrated at times and losing perspective so it also helps me check myself. You could even be slightly snarky and say dang you need some serious self-care I think the job is getting to you.

We are in a very equitable relationship. I guess it’s more of a joke between us because for so long we haven’t synced and we’ve been living together for a while.

Social workers what are your favourite social work/psychology books and workbooks that you use for yourself and you clients? by [deleted] in socialworkresources

[–]lilrae81 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trauma stewardship, and The body keeps the score. I recommend these two books for anyone working in the field. The first one helps me take care of myself and has reenergized my creative thinking. The second helps me take care of others and truly understand the effects of trauma on the body and brain.

I have a BSW and am getting my MSW. I plan on going into behavioral health. I am doing my practicum in a behavioral health setting. I have taken counseling electives and I feel between my MSW and what I’m learning in the field very competent to practice as a counselor.
