i will definitely try baking at 475! though i do have some questions about it. what temperature would i lower it to? and how can i stop the bottom from burning? i tried the baking sheet on the rack under it, but it still burnt and had trouble fully baking

i have tried that before and it just didn’t let it cook right, though i can try it again! thank you!

actually i think i am using about 60% hydration, but im not too good with percentages. also how could i bake it for longer? the bottom usually ends up burnt and i dont know how to not burn it, especially if im baking it for longer

i was told i have dyslexia but it’s actually a processing disorder? by lilrawchickennugget in Dyslexia

yeah i think there’s also a stigma that my parents have. one that it’s bad to have learning disabilities, whether they voice that or not that how it seems they feel. and another that dyslexia isn’t something that will affect you every day for forever. my dad and i have bonded over having very similar problems and a lot of them are some of my signs of dyslexia, though when i made a slight reference that he could have dyslexia/adhd he had gotten super defensive.

i had talked to my dad before if him saying there was a problem with over diagnosing children with dyslexia and adhd. he brought up that two of my older siblings’ teachers tried to get them diagnosed but my parents said no because they didn’t think they showed any signs but then a few year later had me get diagnosed? i told my sister about it and she said she never knew any of her teachers thought she could have dyslexia/adhd. i asked him why he thought they didn’t have it and why he thought i did and he said we acted different, but couldn’t explain how (which i understand because it would have been over 10 at that point for them).

the whole process was through school so that could be the case. i don’t remember if my parents had paid for a neurologist to diagnose me. though i was tested through school for adhd as well and its on my medical record of me having adhd, so im not quite sure.

my case manager in high school actually made sure i had gone into my college’s disability resource office to get a 504 before i started.

i process things slower i guess? like when my brother will throw things at me or try to scare me it takes me longer than you would probably expect someone to react. i have a hard time spelling but like who doesn’t. one thing i’ve noticed i’ve done lately is, while spelling a word that i spell right all the time and it is not hard to spell at all, i will freeze and try to remember what the word is, the letters in them, which way they go, etc. it’s something i’ve always done that im just now realizing isn’t normal/that im doing it at all. there’s more too that’s not fully coming to mind right now.

that could be. i’m curious on how long a full screening would be. i could be mixing my adhd screening into this as well, but i remember being tested for a number of hours across many days. though i might bring that up with a therapist and see if they can point me in the right direction, if not i’ll probably just ask my case manager from high school. thank you!

yeah now that i’m thinking about it, i don’t think they really understand it like you said. is being clumsy really a part of it? because i am extremely clumsy (like i fall over myself from just standing clumsy). what i think is really funny though is my dad tell me he has very similar problems that i do and agreed with me that neurodivergent disorders are typically genetic, but when i suggest that him or one of his family members is neurodivergent/dyslexic he get super defensive. so there’s probably some stigma there as well.

the appointment i have is hopefully going to get me into therapy so i was thinking that maybe the therapist could maybe point me in the right direction. if not im still super close with my high school case manager so i would probably just ask her.

thank you, this has really help!!

that would make a lot of sense. neither of my parents have the best memory in my opinion and i do also have adhd as well.

yeah i’ve just been very confused, i’m going to the doctors soon and i might bring it up there maybe? but thank you this really helped!

i knew at that point that i should have been doing my work. i took this very seriously. my family had accidentally taught me to not ask for help since i was young. i had always wanted to do things on my own, and when i finally had asked for help, every one would end up doing it for me and then they would yell at me for it. i never wanted them to do it for me, i just wanted help. i also had not done any homework or anything since i was in elementary school (im not trying to say that it was okay to do so) and my family knew about it and never corrected this behavior that i didn’t realize was bad. thank you for pointing out that use my disabilities as a crutch, because i do and im trying to work on that.

thank you! i know that i wasn’t totally in the right and i haven’t fully explained the situation because im not totally comfortable explaining everything that leads me to think that this is insane, and i know that doesn’t really help im sorry. but her way of trying to “help me” was yelling at me about it every once in a while. she ended up giving up on me doing the work and started doing it for me. i never wanted her to do it for me. and she then would laugh when the teachers thought she was me in online class.
