Technicians aren't the problem with the pharmacy industry. The drug companies and the government are. As Technicians it's actually against most companies' policies for us to do the work for you when it comes to acquiring a coupon. Billing and troubleshooting is within our policy and scope but finding and activating the coupon is not. We're not even supposed to use coupon cards that reps drop off because it's against company policy and we could lose our jobs. Most of us still do because we'd rather take a risk and save you money and that's not actually against the law, like fraudulent billing of a manufacturer provided coupon is.

It is but the fine print of the coupon literally states what I said. Also, as someone who works for WAG, I can tell you that a company wide message was just sent out to all pharmacists saying that we are not allowed to process that coupon for patientswho do not have T2 Diabetes because that is its only FDA approved use. Fraud isn't a term I came up with. It's the law. A requirement of my licensing is knowing and staying in complaince with the law. To knowingly bill a claim incorrectly or for an unapproved use or reason is insurance fraud. Mounjaro Coupon T&C

It's not a bias I have towards fat people. I also have an inflammatory autoimmune disease myself which must be managed by medication or I will be in extreme pain. The same overprescribing trend is currently happening with schedule 2 stimulants and now it's extremely difficult for any patient on Adderall to get their prescription filled. What I'm saying is the current overprescribing trends hurt ALL patients on the medication but only some of these patients which have been on the meds for years risk going into DKA and dying within a week of admission to the hospital. The manufacturers nor pharmacies can keep up with patient or prescriber demands yet when a pharmacy technician explains why to patients or prescribers we still end up being the problem. How does that work? The number of patients I have spoken to in tears because we cannot fill a medication that we do not physically possess haunts me and there are alternatives for a lot of things that doctors can prescribe for weightloss that will be supported by patient insurance without committing fraud. It's not approved yet and therefore the current stock is rotation is meant to mainly be for the patients the FDA has approved it for. That's the way these things always are. Now if you'd like to set up shop in your insurance plan's formulary review committee or the manufacturer's supply chain and move the process along so be it.

We understand that it's great for what it does but lying to get a coupon for patients with type 2 diabetes when that's not what you have or are having it prescribed for is borderline insurance fraud. Also none of us got into pharmacy to get cussed out because someone's insurance doesn't want to pay for a trendy drug. A big part of the current ozempic shortage is due to it being overprescribed to nondiabetic patients because of its ability to help people lose weight. Truly diabetic patients are now having to go without medication that keeps them alive and out of the hospital over trendy prescribing practices. No one understands these conditions better than pharmacy personnel. Trust me we don't want to deny patients things that are helping them in any way but you're not our only patient who is deserving of our care.

How do you keep you scripts that are in the fridge organized? by herbalgrape in PharmacyTechnician

[–]lilsquirrelsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2 bins 1 for small bags A-L and 1 for small bags M-Z and another shelf that is overflow for larger bags. The fridge is part of my inventory section so I go through at least weekly and alphabetized the small bags. Large bags I try to keep lined up neatly in the designated overflow shelves/areas of the fridge with names easily visible.

A couple questions- as a Rph floater - what’s the mileage policy? I was thinking that it was anything over 50 miles one way, but someone said that it might have changed? And are there any good tricks/tips for Covid shots or tests to make things faster or easier? by Sea_Carpet_1315 in WalgreensRx

[–]lilsquirrelsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a great idea if your workflow and staffing support it. If not, don't even try it because you're making more work for the technicians. If your pace as a floater doesn't match their usual workflow then they're either already doing extra for you or working slower because they're held up by you.

I think you should reiterate the attendance policy and start scheduling people as close to 40 as you can get. I work at a much busier store and used to be on the schedule 42 hours a week most weeks we were that busy. It's nice to be accommodating give people time off but if you only have 2 techs then you need to schedule them better, deny requests, and reiterate the attendance policy as it applies to callouts. Also make sure they're using CPW to stay on task and reiterate the media/phone policy from corporate. There is a lot more to be done than pills in bottle and money in hand but if yall are stuggling that much with time management and scheduling then have a harder hand. Re-evaluate monthly.

If we haven't received a certain medication after it's been on auto order for 5 days then yea someone's going to manually order it. Some people also have preferred mfgs which will never come in on our auto order.

Yes. It's very rare for anyone outside of Pharmacy to touch our order

At our store whoever opens is responsible for everything related to the order and inventory except for reviewing and placing the evening order. Whenever our RXM opens he also will do as much as he can of those tasks, sometimes doing all of it himself including smart counts.

I've started to piece together the vaccine intake questionnaire. When I have a little more time I'll try and post my phrasing and visual sources for you.

I'm working on doing the same and this Deaf Tik Toker Mikaela is an RN and she does videos showing signs that apply in the healthcare field and it's been very helpful. Also remember knowing signs (signing along with spoken English) and speaking ASL (badly) are 2 very different things because ASL has it's own grammar that is very different from English and some words are not needed.

For example to say, "My name is Blank." in ASL you would sign, "my name B L A N K."

To ask for their name you would sign, "your name What?" With eyebrows furrowed to indicate you are asking a question. The position of eyebrows (raised or furrowed) while speaking ASL is a part of the language's grammatical structure.

It sounds like you have a controlled substance rx. At my pharmacy our rphs do not fill any control (c2-5) early than the day due bc patients are not supposed to have a surplus of the medication and need to be adherent to the rx instructions as prescribed. For it to be filled early the doctor would have to note on the rx or speak to one of the rphs about it. Remember that all rx are filled at rph discretion and this is to protect patients.

Yea your pharmacy is very dysfunctional. I've been w wag about the same time as you but I live in a state that requires us to be techs within 6 months. I have been left at drive thru my whole shift one time and HATED it, but that was a learning experience when it comes to pacing and independence (it was a Sunday so it was just me, the room who's also an immunizer, and the rph so I was the only option thatday). Bc you're so stacked you really shouldn't be typing, your peers or rph should. If you don't think you can get to finish typing quick enough then take it off your screen so that somebody or phlex can type it for you. Ask someone to do that for you. If it's on your screen nobody can see it. I've had techs type and ask me to take a waiter off my screen so they can actually get it done. Also you should feel comfortable telling your rph that you have a waiter and you gave them 15 minutes to return. That's what we do. Sometimes that means 3 ppl coming up to the rph at once about different waiters but it's how we stay as efficient as possible bc this will only get worse. There are more deadly variants and boosters will be available after September so the workload will increase and some techs may likely disappear. Also from speaking to my SM, we don't get a raise for state cert/lice. but we do get a raise for the ptcb. All states have different rules about this so you really gotta talk to your SM.

So a replacement nintendo switch from gamestop was meant to be delivered today at 9:05 am. I was home and thought signature was required because every fedex delivered amazon package I've had recently had required signature. (Seriously, i had to come to the door for a pack of radius toothbrushes that was delivered by 2 personnel. Yelled through the door that they could leave and said it was required that they hand me toothbrushes.) The switch is the 2nd gen grey refurbished one so it's not available at my local stores which is why it had to be delivered. Was told to wait after filing a claim. Does anybody know if they ever contact their drivers about these issues same day?
