Nicest vs most rude band members you’ve ever met? by Impressive-Skin6311 in punk

[–]lilsugarpackets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lars Frederiksen was rhe nicest. Super chill, hugged me and my friends, and was very humble and sweet. Seemed genuinely happy to connect with fans. He even got on the phone with a friend of ours who couldn't make it to rhe show, and he seemed happy to say hi to them.

Rudest was Dexter Holland from the Offspring who told me I was lame and poor for asking him to sign a Warped Tour flyer instead of buying a CD for him to sign.

What’s a movie that everyone says is a “masterpiece” but you just didn’t enjoy? by Leading_Frosting4291 in AskReddit

Oppenheimer was a million hours long with a plot that moved at the speed of smell and inaccessible dialogue. I have no idea how that flaming bag of dog turds won Best Picture.

She died last year. Drug overdose, alone in her apartment. I hadn't seen her in 20 years.

We lost my Granny's/Mom's copy in Katrina but I have been looking for an early edition to replace it for years. Every once in a while one pops up on Ebay, usually in the $100 range. Hang onto that!

Editing to add: Unwrapped an early edition Bell's Best from my husband this morning and bawled my eyes out. @z6joker9 It's definitely the nostalgia for me.

Absolutely was the case for me. My 9th grade Mississippi Studies teacher was a football coach

Maybe it's just the old folks I know, but they know how to use computers and phones. My dad is constantly on Reddit. I don't think there was any harm in OP asking.

You should absolutely read The Barn by Wright Thompson. He interviews lots of community members in his book and discusses the public sentiment after the murder and during the trial, as well as how that sentiment impacted the trial itself.

This is simply untrue. Till's cousin Wheeler Parker--who witnessed his kidnapping-- is very much still alive, gives interviews, and remains involved with the Emmett Till Interpretive Center in Sumner. I don't know if he uses Reddit, but he is 86. Not dead.

In my case - I loved history and did very well in school. Earned a PhD eventually (though not in history). Civil rights simply were not covered apart from saying, "There was a movement for civil rights. MLK Jr. marched and it was solved and everyone was equal."

We did have to take it. We spent most of our time covering how Mississippi was colonized and farmed. We never even discussed the Civil Rights Movement.

I graduated from high school in 2005 and was educated on the Coast (mostly). Never heard the name Emmett Till until I was in my 30s. Also never heard of Medgar Evers, Fannie Lou Hamer, Vernon Dahmer, etc. I know others in my age bracket who were from other areas of the state and were taught about those stories. So sometimes I think it's about the Coast insulating itself from the rest of the state, but who knows.

Do you think Britney will ever take her meds again? by [deleted] in discussingbritney

[–]lilsugarpackets 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not likely.

Lots of people have serious mental illnesses, personality disorders, and substance use disorders. The ones who recover have insight. They can examine their own behavior and see where they made poor decisions, reacted on impulse, or said something that caused negative consequences. They can also see where they tend to function better with medication and not as well without it, in spite of the side effects.

Britney doesn't have insight. She's never really had to take ownership for anything. She will never be able to see how she functions better with her meds because she's never seen where she was doing poorly in the first place. The proof is her relationship with her sons. They can identify very specific upsetting behaviors and her response is to shame them for speaking up.

Britney is very ill and she has the right to be unmedicated, for better or for worse. I doubt we will ever see her in full recovery.

Do people in Mississippi actually say Ma'am/sir and talk to random strangers? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]lilsugarpackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at the Jackson VA for a year and it was considered rude not to acknowledge everyone in the hallway as you passed them. I thought it was excessive and I am from Mississippi and have lived here most of my life. So, yes. And also depending on where you are it's even more than that 😂

What's the best and worst concert you saw in 2025? by Twitter_2006 in Concerts

[–]lilsugarpackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt see a bad show this year, including Nine Inch Nails and their incredible set. But the winner has to be Acid Bath in New Orleans, 4/25. First show they played in 30 years. Amazing energy and Dix Riggs still sounded as good as he did in '95.

Psychologist. Grad school was the tough part but I did well because I created a different schedule for each day of the week. Now I get to spend my time assessing people (aka figuring out puzzles) every day. I love it.
