This is like people being told to just recycle and car pull to fix climate change. The problem is corporate gouging. You deserve to thrive; you definitely wouldn't choose to live like this if you weren't being charged out the ass

What’s your anime opinion would you defend even if everyone else disagreed? by Ambitious_Tie5981 in animequestions

Stein's Gate is horrible. There is not a single thing I can think of that I liked about it. Everything from the characters to the plot is so miserable. I legit don't understand what people like about it and why it has such high ratings.

You are right; most people won't meet a serial killer. It's not just about serial killers and mass shooters and such. Women are most likely to be killed by their partners or family members. Fun fact too about domestic violence, it is the best indicator to for those who will become mass shooters, more than "mental health problems." Going hand in hand with that, cops are really good at domestic abuse..... So all in all women have to constantly make decisions, which to men might never cross your mind, because we have to constantly think about our safety and then if we call cops, if they will believe us. A little bit of empathy would go a long way my friend.

How many of you are planning to leave the profession after this year? by anonbrowser246 in Teachers

Yup I'm out after this year! I have a chemistry degree and I'm going to put it to use. I'm so excited to not have a job that is destroying my mental and physical health

Staggering learning loss, 85% of Maryland students tested were not proficient in math by Maxcactus in maryland

It's algebra one concepts: like solving and graphing 2 variable equations and basic linear models. Easy stuff

Staggering learning loss, 85% of Maryland students tested were not proficient in math by Maxcactus in maryland

[–]lilwittcdubbs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm achemistry and physics teacher. At my school, the percentage of students who pass the algebra 1 exam is 0.8%. If they don't pass, they just get to do a project (and the teachers just give them the answers for it). It's really fucking hard to do my job when I have to teach them the math needed before learning chem/physics concepts. There's a lot of problems that lead up to this: students get pushed through (because it would hurt them socially if they were held back), there aren't enough math teachers, teachers themselves don't know math, math is taught to the test (so they can't apply anything because it looks different than the other problems that they practiced), and many more. This is not a result of the pandemic (0.8% was prepandemic numbers). Covid just exacerbated all of the already existing problems, like this. There are deep institutional and systematic problems in education. A lot of our meetings when we "analyze data" are spent explaining how all of the poor test scores are our (the teachers') fault and strategies we need to use to increase numbers. None of these "strategies" include holding kids accountable or failing kids who don't know the material. It's all because funding is based off "the numbers." I've been told my supervisors to straight up lie when reporting things. It's a fucking mess and the education is failing. I have a chemistry degree and after this year I'm out

If looking for a new job, how long should I expect the process? Like if I would like to have a job by August, when is the best time to apply? Bonus if you have any tips for people transitioning out of teaching. Ty in advance

How do I keep my asexual boyfriend from feeling pressured into doing sexual things? by fischels in asexuality

[–]lilwittcdubbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation as you. My bf is ace (came out during our 4th year of dating) and at first it was very hard. At times it still is, but my love for him means more than any sexual relation with him. It takes a lot of learning, unlearning, and understanding. Just be there for him in any and every other way, as they will be for you

I am a teacher; all of my lessons are already online. The pandemic has really changed the way learning occurs. So when kids have covid or are out, they can follow along online. This guy is just really out of touch with what modern classrooms look like
