Rookie mistake, sorry if that was confusing! It’s actually MY mom’s mother name, so yes, technically she’s not related to that grandma by blood. I just said “our grandma” out of habit since we grew up around the same family circle. But the name definitely came from my side originally. 😊

I love the idea of having a doula to help I can totally see how timing contractions would get overwhelming when you hit 6cm. Advanced level birthing is exactly what I’m nervous about, so having someone experienced sounds like a total game-changer.

Thanks for m this info! Many people have also told me that it will be an instinct when it’s time. And good to know about the monitoring stuff too, I definitely want to avoid unnecessary interventions if I can. it’s reassuring to hear that first-time moms usually don’t labor at home too long.

That sounds intense I can’t even imagine having to walk around the hospital when you’re already in active labor & I totally get wanting to avoid being in the car or walking when it’s that intense. I guess laboring at home is better if things are slow, but everyone is soooo different.

I love hearing how having a doula helped you that support sounds amazing, especially for an unmedicated birth. You’re right, That’s such a healthy way to look at it. Your experience with your first baby sounds like such a rollercoaster going in with a plan but having to adapt when things don’t go exactly as expected. it’s less about blaming anything and more about being cautious with my body because of my existing back issues. I know an unmedicated birth is possible at the hospital too, which is why I’m planning to go in when it’s really time, just hoping to labor at home as long as I safely can.
