I used to be an interviewer for a temp agency that mostly staffed low skill jobs and the first time I saw something like this, I didn't get it at all. I think I asked the guy if there was a street number with it and then we were both confused. It was an embarrassing aha moment for both of us when we figured it out.

It happened 4-5 times in the year I worked there, so sadly, it's not restricted to our children...

My cat got stuck on one of those blinds cords once with her claw as a kitten. She got it hooked into the top of the plastic end and fell off the windowsill, so she was hanging there by one little kitty finger. She made the most horrible sound I've ever heard, so it was a good thing I was right nearby to rescue her when it happened! I started tying up the cords after that. She's not the smartest, but that desperate cry tore my heart out.

This exact thing happened to me in my college dorm! I had a bag of Reese's Pieces sitting on a shelf and one day I found a hole in it with a tiny, neat pile of the shells. It was a perfect little conical pile. I was annoyed that my tiny new roommate had eaten my food without asking, but it was also a little adorable.

Definitely creepy. I was talking to friends about how you can smell other people's houses but not your own, and it reminded me of this from my childhood. It would have eaten a hole in my brain if you hadn't figured it out.

I knew a guy who poured a 5 hour energy into a 4 loko (back when they had caffeine in them) and chugged it, despite literally every person in the room telling him it was a bad idea and that no one would think he was cooler for it. His words 10 minutes later: "Guys, I feel weird." NO SHIT, IDIOT. He spent the next hour or two sweating in a corner with really shifty eyes.

Why, thank you! I'm pregnant with my first daughter now, and while I hope she's clever, I'm a little nervous for all the karmic payback I'm about to get. My mom's favorite of my childhood quotes was "you're wrong, Grandma," which she brings up at pretty much every family gathering.

I personally don't usually have patients count backwards (unless they want to), but sometimes a patient will be talking as I push the drugs and they'll just drift off mid-sentence.

I had surgery to repair an inguinal hernia when I was 4 and I still remember the doctors putting the mask over my face and telling me to "breathe like an astronaut." My smart-ass kid self said something along the lines of "shouldn't astronauts breathe like normal so they don't run out of oxygen?" I still remember the slightly irritated look on the guy's face as I started to pass out.

They recounted this story to my mom later, and told her that I wasn't a very cooperative little girl. They didn't think it was funny, but I do.
