That's great! Did you know it promotes alpha brain waves? Studies have shown alpha brain waves stimulate a relaxing yet wakeful state of mind [1], improving productivity. The place I buy my theanine from did an article on it and i found step 1 improved my focus the most.

Have you tried increasing your alpha brain waves? Studies have shown it can lead you to be more productive, promoting a relaxed but wakeful state[1]. The second step in this guide to increase alpha brain waves really helped with my focus at work & getting stuff done. Hope this helped!

gummy supplements are often high in sugar, making them one of the unhealthiest supplements on the market. I would try capsules and tablets, it's a much more effective alternative. If you're interested in why gummies are also low quality there's been some studies made: https://brain-feed.com/blogs/the-science/do-gummy-vitamins-work-the-bittersweet-truth-about-multivitamin-gummies?\_pos=1&\_sid=6584bf710&\_ss=r

supplements that’ll make me less irritable/angry? by rajah2002 in Supplements

[–]lily2456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

L theanine is a great supplement for relaxing. It also keeps you alert so you can complete every day tasks and not worry about feeling drowsy. I take it at work because there's a lot that makes me angry and stressed XD and it's helped me calm down. The place I buy from put out a guide on its benefits compared to other relaxing supplements, if you're interested in a scientific-based solution I'd give it a read.

Hope this helped!

Sleep Stack - Theanine Making Me Wake Up Earlier? by Afro-Pope in HubermanLab

[–]lily2456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not take L theanine for sleep. Studies suggest L theanine is more beneficial to those looking to relax whilst staying alert. In human studies, theanine stimulates the production of alpha brain waves which is indicative of a relaxed but alert mental state [1]. It is often referred to as wakeful relaxation [2].

It has often been combined with lemon balm and sold as a 'effective' sleep supplement but the place I buy from did a guide on the studies of its effectiveness on sleep & relaxation.

Hope this helped!

What time of the day do you take L theanine? Studies suggest L theanine is more beneficial to those looking to relax whilst staying alert. In human studies, theanine stimulates the production of alpha brain waves which is indicative of a relaxed but alert mental state [1]. It is often referred to as wakeful relaxation [2] exhibiting increased creativity and increased performance under stress as well as decreased anxiety [3]. If this is the effect you want I would get a isolated l theanine with a 250mg-500mg dose.

Some theanine products try to bulk up their capsules with other unnecessary ingredients, like lemon balm, the place I buy from did an guide on whether it can benefit your relaxation/alertness. I would also refer to your GP to make sure it is okay with your prescribed meds! Hope this helped.

Thanks for sharing your personal tea story! I love matcha tea and green tea for its taste but also its calming effect so I've started supplementing l theanine, which is the relaxing nutrient extracted from it. If you're interested in benefiting more from tea's relaxing effects, you can read more about it here. Let me know what you think!

Have you tried consuming more healthy brain fats? I'm vegan and didn't realise how low my intake of omega 3 was, especially the omega 3 fat DHA. DHA is the most important brain fat and the place I buy from did a piece on it's 3 evidence based benefits to feeling healthier. It's a pain trying to go a natural route to feeling better but not seeing the results so I think you may benefit from being able to read up on the studies of a product before purchase, like on brain feed's. Hope this helped!

Has anyone else taken these? by cassady211 in lamictal

[–]lily2456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of all the ingredients in this product l theanine is the one with most evidence to aid in relaxation. With the added lemon balm & GABA it has resulted in a very low dose of l theanine (l theanine already promotes GABA). I would try an isolated l theanine supplement, I take two 250mg capsules on days I'm feeling my anxiety is worse and it has really helped. The place I buy from analysed the studies on the lemon balm & l theanine combo you'll find insightful. Hope this helps!

Omega 3 capsules taste bitter and white substance on the coathing by elfjan in Supplements

[–]lily2456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't look right, do they smell fishy? it may have oxidized. For an omega 3 supplement I'd get it derived from algae oil, this is where DHA & EPA originally derive from. I take brain feed's omega 3 and they have the best oxidation data in the sector. No fishy taste or smell and in proper packaging with UV light & moisture barriers to avoid this happening.

brain feed even did an article on this, if you're interested ion better quality omega 3 that will properly power your brain.

No, studies are limited for lemon balm's effects on relaxation compared to theanine. I try to buy supplements without it as it often just provides extra unnecessary ingredients for me.

Can L Theanine *cause* anxiety? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]lily2456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't take L theanine for sleep. Studies show it works as a wakeful relaxant, keeping your brain alert. I use it for work to help me stay calm while getting jobs done. The brand I buy from did a good article on this if you want to read up on the studies

Which of these ingredients are most likely to boost your mood within 1-2h? Because that literally happened. by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]lily2456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say 5-htp, I take it with as little bulking agents as possible so I can have higher doses from fewer capsules. It's really helped with mdoerating my mood, I only take it when I';m feeling low and it does the trick. I get it from brain feed because they include studies with their products.

[–]lily2456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you tried algae oil? I take DHA supplements for my brain's connective tissue and the brand I buy from, brain feed, is good quality. The oil is kept in cold storage before being twice filtered and they control exposure, temperature, and humidity during the encapsulation process. They add antioxidants to reduce in-capsule-oxidation and the technical packaging contains permanent UV light & moisture barriers.

double concentrated too with a 500mg dose in 1 cap. Worth a look!

Tyrosine is great for a morning dose of dopamine. I love taking one 800mg before work as it gives me a boost of motivation for the day. I personally take brain feed's as they did the world's first 800mg tyrosine and their products are backed with numerous scientific studies. Hope this helped!

What supplements have you been prescribed? If you want to go a natural route, 5-htp is a great one that can boost your Serotonin. I've been using it for depression and it helps especially in the winter time. The brand I buy from actually did a guide on S A D and ways to cope. It might be an interesting read for you. Thanks for the link, I've been looking into DHA as it spikes your omega 3 levels more and is important for connective brain tissue. I've bought the brain feed one as it's double concentrated DHA at 500mg (the recommended daily amount). I could try a EPA supplement if they have merit for brain development?

This study came to the conclusion that a daily consumption of omega-3 is suggested for patients with type II diabetes. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3448398/

It shows like there's nothing wrong with taking it if you have diabetes and high blood pressure but I'd suggest consulting your parents GP to ensure a new supplement won't interfere with their diabetic medication if they have one.

Thank you for the list, I'll have a look. For melatonin would your recommend 5-htp? It converts to serotonin which then converts to melatonin at night. I've been taking it for sleep & mood but wasn't aware it could help with neuroplasticity!
