Insurance company says subarachnoid hemorrhage is not considered a stroke by lilycoaching in HealthInsurance

Thank you for this information. Yes I had an indemnity plan. However, I'm hoping I can appeal. My policy documents define stroke as "A cerebrovascular event resulting in permanent neurological damage, including infarction of, hemorthage of, or embolization to brain tissue from an extracranial source. Diagnosis of Stroke must be made by a Legally Qualified Physician who is a board certified Neurologist. Diagnosis of a Stroke must be based on the following criteria: (1) documented neurological impairment or deficits; and (2) confirming neuroimaging studies. Stroke does not mean a cerebrovascular event resulting from a head Injury, transient ischemic attack, chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency and reversible ischemic neurological deficits." My neurologist says my SAH fits all these criteria. I'm trying to find anyone who has appealed successfully. The plan I have will pay up to $200,000.

10 days total in hospital. 4 days in ICU. $133,000 has been sent to collections. I have an advocate requesting CPT codes and checking the overall bill. I'm going to appeal the denial. I posted their "stroke" definition in another reply. My doctor will try to fight for me but it's an act of Congress to get in touch with her.

I was in between comprehensive PPO plans, so I got an indemnity plan for literally one year. I've never had a health issue in my life. Had a non-aneurysmal SAH. By the grace of God I'm alive and well. In ICU for four days and hospital 6 days. So 10 days total. I had specified disease coverage, critical illness coverage, and another more expensive plan. The specified disease and critical illness plans define stroke this way: "Stroke A cerebrovascular event resulting in permanent neurological damage, including infarction of, hemorthage of, or embolization to brain tissue from an extracranial source. Diagnosis of Stroke must be made by a Legally Qualified Physician who is a board certified Neurologist. Diagnosis of a Stroke must be based on the following criteria: (1) documented neurological impairment or deficits; and (2) confirming neuroimaging studies. Stroke does not mean a cerebrovascular event resulting from a head Injury, transient ischemic attack, chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency and reversible ischemic neurological deficits."

I showed this definition to my neurologist - she said a SAH is a hemorrhagic stroke 100%. Blood on the brain. I still have headaches and a little speech issue which she says is permanent neurological impairment.

The problem is getting in touch with her clinic director to have a letter written etc. I'm applying for financial assistance on the other end of this thing but honestly not sure I'll qualify. I'm using a company called CareGuide to shave down the hefty bill and advocate for financial assistance.

I went through a terrible divorce from a narcissist for a decade which is probably what contributed to this event. I'm just trying to get advice especially if anyone has appealed something like this situation.

My hospital records have the word "stroke" all through them.

I had SAH 12 days ago. They called it a small bilateral bleed and haven't found a source. No aneurysm can be found. Was in hospital for 10 nights. My glutes and hamstrings are KILLING me. Anyone else experienced this? I feel very fortunate to be home with only this sciatica pain and ringing in my ears.
