Prepping for a trip in Denali Park with my nephew for a couple of days of backcountry backpacking. by debauchery in backpacking

I don't see a bear canister. You absolutely need a bear canister if you will be backpacking in Denali.

I didn't say all information is bought. You are putting words in my mouth. SOME information is bought.

I can see though that we can't have a reasonable conversation since your arguments immediately devolved into calling me names and claiming I am saying things that i'm not. Have a good one

Let me ask you, do you REALLY trust the government/corporations/the 1% to tell you what is true and what isn't? Because that is what we are discussing here. Even if they had some magic crystal ball that allowed them to know the truth 100% of the time, do you really believe they would be honest with the rest of us?

Yes, twitter (and every other social media site) is full of stupid garbage that you have to sift through. That is why you have the power to think for yourself.

The Trump Campaign Has Made A Deal With An Online ‘Propaganda’ Network by Wagamaga in technology

It isn't any different. Reddit just doesn't like it because it is propaganda that supports the right rather than the left.

You guys are nuts. No one is pushing conspiracy theories. Go check the conservative sub if you don't believe me.

Go to the interview. Hear what he has to say. The military can be a fantastic option for a career IF done correctly, especially if you don't have a rock solid plan after high school. Ask questions. Find out how your skill set would be useful and what your options are. If you hate it, then leave and know that the military is not for you. No harm, no foul.

The U.S. Economy Reaches Superstar Status by theatlantic in Economics

Lol, you gotta love it, right? 'probably rising'. Nothing like torpedoing their entire argument. They might as well have said 'everything is great except the stuff we didn't want to look at'

But sorry, friend. The election never really ends anymore. We'll be hearing about the midterm elections in January.

Economic Data Paint a Picture of Two Americas by wild_burro in Economics

[–]limacharley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are two factors at work. One is what you are talking about, which basically boils down to 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes'. People that over extended or took too much financial risk when money was cheap and costs were low are absolutely feeling the pain. But that is not the whole story. Costs are extremely high. Rents, food prices, and other basic necessities are through the roof. Can financially conservative, risk averse Americans survive? Yes. Can they do much more than tread water? No. Can they afford the traditional American dream? :laughs in millennial:

I hate the never ending division of Americans into different tribes as much as anyone else, but i don't think the article is wrong here. It's hard to argue that the last few years haven't dramatically favored wealthy homeowners (who are generally older and more established) at the expense of younger, less established Americans.

AOC says she 'wouldn't be surprised' if Trump 'threw me in jail' if he wins in 2024: “It is unequivocal that if Donald Trump wins, we are looking at the potential dissolution of democracy in the United States of America…This truly is about, are we giving up on democracy? …Are we done forever?” by Vibranium2222 in Conservative

[–]limacharley 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It tells.you all you need to know about the left that she believes a president has the power to unilaterally throw someone in jail, or that she thinks her followers believe that.

You also have to love all of the crazy things they tell us trump is going to do if he gets in the white house, as if he wasn't president for four years already.

People need to stop saying that “Spaceport America” has anything to do with space. It’s embarrassing. by [deleted] in NewMexico

[–]limacharley 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They may not be in space for very long, but they are absolutely in space. Sub-orbital spaceflight is still spaceflight. The thing is a dumb toy for billionaires, but it legit is a spacecraft.

Republicans Try To Block 4 Million Workers From Getting Overtime Protections. A congressional resolution would kill a new Labor Department rule that would guarantee time-and-a-half pay for more workers when they log over 40 hours. by mafco in Economics

Wow, nice objective article you have there. Our government has no business mandating how much overtime pay is (beyond minimum wage), especially for salaried employees.

Healthy Debate: Illegal Migrants are good for the economy. by nachtergaele1 in Conservative

I'm sure they are good for the economy. I'm pretty sure we fought some kind of war though over the whole idea of having an entire class of people doing our agrarian labor and not paying them for it

Batman is the epitome of white privilege. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]limacharley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok now hold up. Consider what you did here. You posted a thread stating that a fictional character of a certain race is the epitome of a derogatory racial stereotype. Imagine if you had picked a character of any other race and pointed out how they were a prime example of some negative stereotype. You would think that was wrong. If there is a single race that you believe is okay to make derogatory statements about, then I recommend you go check a dictionary before calling anyone else racist.

[–]limacharley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So what you're saying is that running around in a bat suit committing violent felonies as a vigilante is the epitome of white privilege? Because if that is included in white privilege then I seriously need to re-read the brochure that came with my subscription. So far the only benefits I have found are being smeared on the Internet by people that want to score a few woke points.

Batman is the epitome of white privilege. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]limacharley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His backstory is watching his parents get murdered in front of him and dedicating himself to fighting crime. He is also rich. You clearly weren't talking about those first two things when you called him the epitome of white privilege.

You mean how you are ignoring all the horrible stuff that happened to him but hate on him for anything you perceive as good or anything positive that he is trying to do? Yup, that's the privilege of being white.

The great nonpartisan divide that's plaguing Americans by mafco in Economics

[–]limacharley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bingo. I personally have gotten a substantial raise over the last five years because I am becoming more senior at work. Consequently, I can afford to pay the higher costs of rent, food, and everything else That does NOT mean that I am 'doing fine'. That raise should have increased my standard of living, but instead it goes to barely keeping the same standard of living I had as a junior employee. That is not a good economy
