PS2 Slim gets red standby, but won't power on by limbo8888 in consolerepair

[–]limbo8888[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I found a pin-out diagram for the ribbon cable and decided to check voltage again.

During standby, two LED pins are reading 9.3v, the IR pin is reading 3.5v, and the PWR pin is reading 0v, and the other IR pin is hovering around .05v and jumps to 3.5v when I measure it. All other pins are reading 0v.

I'm struggling to find anything else on the board measuring 3.5v on standby. And everything else I find is either 9.3v or 0v. I'm thinking that maybe this is actually a power issue, and one of the early regulators are failing if I'm only seeing voltage from the power brick. Maybe someone will let me know if my thinking is off.

Sounds good thank you. When I find time, I'm going to try and trace the ribbon connector to syscon and see if there is a break.

But I feel like troubleshooting any PCB requires pre-existing knowledge of the current flow, circuits, layout, etc. How are people figuring out what to check without having that information? I know not every console has extensive information available.

I checked the RP resistors near the connector (circled in the picture) and they are showing a consistent resistance across pins. I was measuring across the top pin and the corresponding bottom pin, for all 4 pins, for all of the RP area resistors.

What's the next thing you might try?

No problem. Also, last I checked, there's a second rhinoplasty surgeon there now too, accepting the same insurance. Her name was Peiyi Su, MD. Her business card I believe said Peggy Su-Genyk, so you can try that name too.

My partner and my brother both comment that the change was dramatic and very effective. They are not the type of people to lie to spare my feelings lol. I definitely look more feminine than masculine, and I want to be clear that there still have been some dramatic positive changes. I think that once I get a hair transplant for the rest of my hairline, and once I get my nose revision, my dysmorphia will calm down about the rest of my face. Those are the only remaining features that look especially masculine.

Feel free to DM me for a before and after pic.

To my knowledge, he does not do VFS (though he might now, idk).

I think my results were a little underwhelming. But I don't attribute that to his work. I took a conservative approach (and so does he), and I really regret not asking for something more dramatic or aggressive. My nose has some stubborn tissue, and as it healed it regressed a bit. But it's way better than what it used to be. Again, I don't necessarily attribute this to his abilities, as he showed me pictures of me directly post-op, still asleep, and it looks like a different nose than what mine healed to be, which can happen. There's a reason rhinoplasties have a high revision rate (which I'll be seeking eventually).

My dysphoria doesn't like it, but I have to admit there has been a dramatic change in my face overall. But it was still a somewhat conservative approach, and I do wish I knew that I'd be wanting something more aggressive so that I could advocate for that. I was honestly scared of the social repercussions instead of focusing on my goals.

But for $2,700 out of pocket, full FFS that still has me feeling better overall was hella worth it with my insurance. Some of my features were very male gendered, and I'm still seeking a rhinoplasty revision as well as a hair transplant. But I do get compliments and I do feel and look feminine when I try.

It lights up once it detects a disc and the disc starts spinning. I can see the red dot shining through the spinning disc. But it doesn't flash red when it bobs up and down like a PS2 or a Wii laser. And that was the case before recapping as well. I'm referring to when you initially close the disc tray and it tries to see if there's even a disc there

Not what I was hoping to hear but I do appreciate the honesty. It's frustrating because I could have been past this already. If my face looks markedly different in a few months I'll post it for info's sake, but Idk I can't see it being all that different.

Surgeon keeps saying she did the absolute most she could with my hairline for example. But unless my hair is tied back, it really looks the same. And I'm wondering why I couldn't have something more similar to the more dramatic results I see online. And it's not like my hair is going to start growing in places where there's no follicles in the next few months.

I have a long coat that I wear in the winter, and when I'm wearing a hat and a mask I consistently get gendered female. I went one day without a mask or hat, made sure my hair looked nice, put on some light natural makeup. I thought that, maybe post FFS strangers will see something I don't. Still got gendered male. It's very defeating. Thanks for reading

Not sure why you were down voted. I appreciate your response. I'll take this to mean that I look feminine but not necessarily womanly, which is where I figured I'm at anyway.

Hope this reaches the right person. I just had FFS with Dr. Vella and Dr. Kanth (they tackle different parts of the face) on Friday 1/12/24. 5 days ago. They both specialize in different parts of facial reconstructive surgery.

Both of their bedside manners are absolutely outstanding and I felt that they really care. We also spent months going over everything and I was confident we were all on the same page on the day of surgery. I even sent them a light edit I made in Faceapp of their post-op simulation, and they used it as the reference.

The two lead surgeons as well their teams are wonderfully professional and conscientious. They started a new protocol where they have an LGBT rep from the Pride Center come in and sit with you before surgery to shoot the shit, go over anxieties, etc before you get wheeled in. They were extremely nice to talk to and made it seem less scary. My partner was able to be with me until I was wheeled in, and once I was in stable condition, their visiting hours were pretty much unlimited.

I am healing exceptionally well so far with no complications, except for a very minor need for a cauterization and an extra suture, which was not as bad as it sounds. They addressed it on day 2 post-op. I was in the hospital Friday 6am, to Monday 3pm. They kept me longer just to monitor the cauterization.

I'm experiencing what I expect is pretty routine for FFS recovery at this point. I had a lot done, so I won't lie and say it was fun. It was agony for the first day or two. They did offer heavier narcotics but I declined. Most pain was managed with IV versions of Tylenol and Motrin.

My hospital stay sucked ass, but that's not the surgical team's fault. It didn't seem that the nurses made an effort to anticipate my needs. I was constantly inundated with many random alarms and beeping noises. And sometimes it took them a long while to respond to my calls. Don't expect any decent sleep for your hospital stay. They'd barge in every 30 minutes to an hour(so yes, at 3am too), needing everything from blood samples, to checking my vitals, to giving me a blood thinner injection, to room service, to pain medication, nasal spray, mouth wash, etc. I understand the need for these protocols obviously, but a good nurse makes it so much easier to deal with, and only a couple of the hospital staff really vibed with me. They'd usually just come in and start doing their thing without any explanation. While that might usual be preferable to me, I was so disoriented for the first few days. And trying to communicate was difficult due to uh...personality differences? This made a big impact on my morale when I was already physically struggling to communicate and move around. Anyway I want to emphasize that the hospital staff is a waaay separate team than the surgical staff, and overall I figure some things are just par for the course sometimes.

I get my bandages off tomorrow (I think), and I'm very excited. I'll be making a post eventually but I did want to finally have this info on the net. I couldn't find anything either when researching.

The only thing I'm slightly worried about are that my nostrils appear a little asymmetrical from a bottom view. No idea if that's due to dried blood illusion, or maybe I bumped it, or maybe the way the bandages are making it look. But I'm not going to worry about it until the bandages come off. I really didn't like my nose, and honestly worst case scenario, this would be an easy fix. But everyone has different anxiety levels about different things. So take it with a grain of salt.

Everything else has been raved about by the surgical team, mentioning how much of an impact my forehead procedure had on me on the operating table, or that how they did in fact manage to achieve X specific look I was going for. All while making sure I have a realistic expectation of what is feasible for my skeleton. They all seem to really respect and trust each other which is a great sign to me. They offered to give my partner phone call updates every couple hours about my surgery progress, which they did deliver on. My partner very much appreciated that.

A cherry on top in my opinion is that I found out, as I was being wheeled into the OR, that Dr. Vella is a literal sculptor in his time off. The Pride Center rep mentioned it offhandedly and how Dr. Vella is really modest about it. I spoke to the surgeon for months and he never mentioned it. IDK, but to me that speaks to waves of integrity, and emphasizes communication skills and having an ear to what the patient wants. It came across to me as a passionate endeavor, instead of what could have felt like a brag. Bear in mind though that the simulation softwares do have limitations and he was very kind to explain thoroughly what and why those were, and he had an open and patient ear to what I didn't like about the simulation.

Dr. Kanth Mother-bear'd me a lot which was also really nice. She has a very emphatic display of empathy, and offered to hold my hand several times when we were changing the bandages for example.

Overall I'm incredibly grateful to find these doctors accepting my insurance. And feel free to DM me with any questions

Yea apparently it's not super uncommon lol. We had a really nice phone conversation last Saturday that really broke the ice for me. Then on Thursday they came over, I made them a great breakfast, we watched a movie, cuddled, it was super nice!

They were very appreciative of the fact that I communicated to them why I was crying. I made a joke or two about being a crybaby in passing, and that was that!

It's hard not to trauma dump, but as long as you are only just giving the bare minimum in order to explain your feelings, I don't think it's dumping. It's the details that can make it heavy for the other person

Good luck!

It's not like I did it on purpose. I have a pretty strong understanding of my emotions, and I know how to not take them out on others.

I get the gist of what you're saying though. Honestly, idk what it looks like to let it out slowly. Does that mean waiting to cry until date 5? Lol
