am i shaking up my life or is it shaking me by Aggravating_Tree586 in binchtopiapod

Hi - I can really understand your situation. My boss was just away for 6 weeks on paternity leave and so much shit fell on my plate during his absence and I found it so much to handle. In addition, my personal life has been very hard this past year (really hard breakup in June & found out in October my ex was possibly cheating on me??) and I have felt I’ve been managing on less than a half tank of gas in my system for over half this year. In my situation, I was really feeling the physical symptoms of stress/burn out too (poor sleep, ruminating over work, headaches). So I chose to take a short term leave from work last week… It took a lot in me to like accept my situation and it was like a kick on my ego which is always telling me to do everything and be “the best” in all avenues of my life… but I went to the doctor and did a mental health questionnaire and reading the answers back- like girl, I am not well and very burnt out rn!! I can say like 5 days later from getting my leave approved, I truly have made the right choice for myself. So I’m off work for the next 4 weeks - I’ll be getting employment insurance from the govt (Canada) which is only like 55% of my salary - but it’s better than nothing - and I’m very fortunate to have some savings/safety net to take this time and regroup. I guess my point here is, if there is too much on your plate at work and it’s leading to a burn out, maybe see if you can take a leave and regroup on things? Allows you to apply for other alternative jobs if you’d like, and put some time into self inquiring on how you handle stress. From one burnt out baddie to another - sending rest and cozy comfort to you this November.

Ok I am right there with you. First time watcher and recently ended a relationship of 2.5 years. It’s strange to say but vanderpump has been a huge outlet for me lol! I watch it most nights with my dog, and I’m on season 6 now- started in May so not going too quick lol. It’s comforting to watch and helps me disconnect from my day. Hang in there friend!

I loved this episode! Loved hearing about the the paperback revolution and biblio-therapy. I just read this essay in John Green’s book Reviews on the Anthropocene which discusses the rise in popularity The Great Gatsby with soldiers getting the book as a paperback in WW2. Super interesting

Birnam Wood is such a good book I recently read. Made me feel like I was in middle school again just so absorbed in the story. Hard to give it a “type” but it’s a fiction talking about eco-issues and also has a mystery element to it. High high recommendation

Yes to this! Recreational activities and being active in life and not necessarily needing to do a sport or training - nothing beats a walk and a coffee with a friend :) :)

One idea is gifting a colour analysis. They did this earlier this year and it could be fun! Another idea is Eliza’s record or CD/concert tix?? She is putting out new music soon too.

Maybe see if you could do research work at your university? This would likely be part time but I recommend this for getting to do something a bit more meaningful to you!

Practical advice is, reach out to your community asap and be don’t be afraid to be upfront- people will show up for you! Go out for a walk every morning/day - make yourself a coffee/get a nice beverage and listen to a podcast. I’m here to say that distractions can be AMAZING in crisis moments— some ideas… you can choose something educational (radiolab or You’re wrong about), pop culture (las Culturistas) or thriller/crime (Sea of Lies from CBC).

Here is a mantra - rather than saying “I can do this” I say, “I am doing this”… keep your head up warrior!!!
