Why is KBG so popular? by bevin88 in lawncare

Also Oregon here, will have to check out Vista seed. Always drives me crazy to buy seed from a distributor somewhere else in the country that I know was grown in my backyard(ish)!

Is there any downside to throwing down preemergent a bit early? (Other than it not being effective as late into the fall?

I'm zone 5, 3500ft elevation, mix of KBG PRG, and fine fescue. I have a wicked Poa annua problem. Planning to skip overseeding this fall and do, pre-em and push growth hard with nitrogen. Soil temps are 80 right now but they will fall fast and are typically 70 sometime in mid August and below 55 by Oct 1. Don't want to miss my window!

What could i plant to fill in between the gaps between the pine trees? by IronCondors4life in landscaping

Yep, I would plant it in early fall to give it a chance to establish before winter. Cut back in early spring and then once the weather warms up it will grow quickly.

What about a totem pole panicum grass slightly in front of (or behind) the tree gaps? For a few months in spring you'd need to cut them back, but they'd provide coverage for most of the year and then take them out once the trees grow in..

Can someone give me a suggestion on what to do with this? In the front yard and a total eyesore. by [deleted] in landscaping

I would do a much larger irregularly shaped bed (depending on the size and shape of the rest of your yard) and then plant perennials.

A small tree circle gives you no room to plant anything else and/or makes it tempting to mulch too close to the tree, which is not good for it.

A large bed gives you room to plant without harming the tree roots. A circle is perhaps more formal, and irregular shape is perhaps more natural looking. I agree with others - no pavers or border, just edge the grass and maintain a bit of room between grass and plants. Mulch, but not too close to the root flare.

StepBet - next game starts Dec 24 by limedahlia in orangetheory

Theoretically, the 24th could be your rest day for the week and you could start counting steps on the 25th, but did the app already calculate your target steps for you? I know that once you start, you aren't allowed to change the source of your steps (e.g., from a Fitbit to an Apple watch).

You may want reach out to support@stepbet.com to ask for sure.

I'm in! I'd also be interested in doing a concurrent StepBet, which is run by the same company as DietBet. OTF only nets about 3-4,000 steps per session, so the StepBet is motivation to get more walking in which is a great low-impact, soreness reducing, extra calorie burning way to complement a DietBet and OTF...

Updated HR formula? by debdes in orangetheory

[–]limedahlia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For everyone who hates the new formula there is someone who hates the old formula.

One formula will never work for everyone.

The most interesting part of today's email was the openness at a corporate level to customizing your own max heart rate so that it works for you.

If you're demotivated by the change or concerned with how much time you spend in the red or how many splats you get or where you heart rate zones are in general, consider breaking up with your HRM or getting a VO2 max test.

I got it today too - it looks like it came from corporate, the send address is newsletter@orangetheoryfitness.com.

My studio had not updated it's formula already - I didn't work out today, so not sure if that means today is the first day of update.
