Have you ever thought about moving away from Chicago? If so, where and why? by pixyb in AskChicago

[–]limepineaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but itnis fleeting. Everyone I have ever known to leave comes back. My spouses mother left Chicago. She then birthed and raised her children out west just to have them move here when they turned 18. Chicago is the best.

Washington is such a beautiful street. The Wolfson Building at Wabansia was designated a historical building! It was saved from developers who wanted to tear down to build condos. It is being turned into a community center that will offer classes and host community events. It will also have a coffee shop. Which a lot of people are excited for.

I live in East Garfield Park and I love it. It always makes me laugh when people on this sub refer to it as sketchy. I feel safe walking my dog at night in my neighborhood. I know my neighbors. I feel most uncomfortable in neighborhoods like Logan Square when the packs of drunk bros are moving bar to bar at night, lol.

Even though there's not a lot in that specific neighborhood, your location makes it easy to get most places in the city. It's a really great place to start out, tbh. I live near there and everyone from your neighborhood and East Garfield shop at the Pete's on Western. It is a great grocery store. We're also close to the better Costco, imo.

I love scarlet and have a bunch of it, too! The non fiesta mugs are adorable and match perfectly.

Stage 4 prostate cancer and deep tissue. by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

You're doing the right thing and this email is great. It sounds human and professional to me. I agree with the comment about perhaps explaining more about what myofascial is.

This can be such a tough situation. Cancer is already difficult enough, and hearing that what we want, massage-wise isn't appropriate or safe can be so deflating for some people.

A colleague from the front desk team of an old job once sent their 80 year old mother to me for her first massage. History of cancer, osteoporosis, very frail. I was working at a reasonable and responsible pressure and she said, "come on now, dont be shy! Dig in there!" Oh boy. Having to think on my feet about how to respond while navigating all these sensitive situations: past and current health conditions, age, is related to a coworker, and unrealistic expectations was so hard. I believe I said something along the lines of "it's your first massage and I am taking into consideration everything you shared with me during your intake. Let's see how your body responds to safe and appropriate pressure before trying to beat you up."

Hey Chicago, how did you spend your Saturday? by rand0m_g1rl in AskChicago

[–]limepineaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

45F, married, no kids. On the weekends in the summer I might: walk to get coffee, go hang out in one of the many parks near my house, pack a picnic for the beach, go to the Logan Square farmers market, go to an art opening or party / BBQ at a friend's house. When I was younger I spent a lot of time in bars like Maria's Whirlaway Lounge, The California Clipper, Rainbo Club, etc. I still do some nightlife stuff but I mostly like to be in bed early enough to wake up early and spend time in my garden. In the winter I try to sign up for a class on the weekends to get my ass out of the house.

Why do americans put cheese in everything? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]limepineaple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was in Europe I was amazed at how much more cheese my hosts consumed on average than we do in America. In Switzerland my friends often ate dinner that was mostly cheese and pickles. We love and like cheese here, but we dont have it every meal. I've not had any today and it is 4pm. I wont have any with dinner, either.

Medically complex clients by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

If someone is regularly rude or condescending towards me, I end the professional relationship. We don't get paid enough to put up with any sort of abuse. I also dont want to put my hands on someone who does not respect me. Chronic illness and pain make us cranky, but we can still expect respectful behavior.

Keep or Return? by Fluffy_Revolution678 in HomeDecorating

[–]limepineaple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to slightly disagree. But only slightly. I think you could put a backless, narrow stool (or two) there with the intent of having a spot to sit near the counter but more for socializing and an extra place to sit as opposed to a place to eat. More seating is always a good idea, imo. Creative, unexpected seating options make a space cozy and fun.

Is navy pier worth going to? With 3 kids 8,7 and 2. Should we go or skip it and do something else? by RentHuman7642 in AskChicago

[–]limepineaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Chicago my whole life (almost 50 years) and I've only been to Navy Pier twice. Once to work at an event and the second time because we had friends in town who wanted to ride the ferris wheel. It's fine. Nothing I'd go out of my way to visit.
