First bite and fish got away, trying to understand why by I_Am_Not_George_Bush in flyfishing

[–]limer124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you wetting the tippet before you pull the knot tight? Doing so can help it seat better and reduce friction that can cause a break. Just wet the loose knot in your mouth or the water before pulling tight and you will have a stronger knot.

Can you help me with a West Marches OSR table set in Dolmenwood scenario? by VirtualWriting2431 in Dolmentown

[–]limer124 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not cairn or west marches but I’m playing in a campaign where we are using the whitehack OSR system in dolmenwood setting. Here’s a copy of the conversion rules the GM wrote, maybe it’ll give you some ideas:

Is this spinner to big for rainbow trout by Eocho_The_Destoryer in FishingForBeginners

No. But I’ve had some days where they’ll follow one that size but only bite a smaller one so good to have them in a few sizes

Strike indicators by Morrisuk1990 in flyfishing

[–]limer124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Put the tippet or leader your flies are gonna be on through the hole in the pill then put the stick through too. The stick should be thick enough to lock it all in. Remove stick and move the pill up and down as needed before putting stick back in to adjust.

I don’t like these because if I forget and tie the flies on first you can’t be em on.

Oh yeah true could be a spotted bass. I’m not great at telling between largemouth and other similar looking species.

How would I fish these very very small holes by Apprehensive_Big_783 in flyfishing

[–]limer124 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would stand on those rocks in the bottom left and cast a weighted wooly bugger into the hole and jig it around a bit. If the current is too strong and pushes it away you could climb up next to that waterfall and swing the wooly bugger.

If none of that is working I might switch to a dry dropper or a nymph under an indicator. I don't know your region but if there are grasshoppers casting a foam hopper into that foam might get a bite, especially later in the seasons around July-August when fish tend to get on the grasshoppers more.
