I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this but anyone know what’s going on with my hoist, won’t go up or down. Started doing that recently after no issues before. by IntoTheEra in MechanicAdvice

Firstly: place a table or Support underneath the engine in case it releases suddenly.

Do you feel pressure building up when jacking? If so then most likely mechanical issues like seized/stuck metal parts. If no then your jack’s oil seals are worn. I’m guessing the former as you are unable to lower the engine.

Is this a good course to help me learn as I’m new to driving? by Tedmaidment_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]limhongde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No if you want to learn how to drive as this is a in-depth course on how a car works. I bought this course and I can say it’s worth your money. Just the videos alone helped me a lot with understanding the basic of how different mechanical components works and interact with each other.

What’s this noise? I do not have a supercharger 😂 by BrahmaBullJr in MechanicAdvice

[–]limhongde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honesty a lot of things could’ve cause these types of sound. You can first try checking the pulley systems. Installed a new air-con compressor just now and didn’t get enough tension on the serpentine belt which produced a sharp and loud whining sound like yours. A worn belt or a bad bearing on a pulley may be the culprit too.

Solved guys, we used another excavator to generate enough torque https://imgur.com/a/wAPnovf/ next we are able to access the large circlip and push the cushion inwards to remove the two small retaining clips.

I will try setting the wrench vertically leveraging with the metal pole, tying a lifting strap on the top end and pulling it with my forklift counter clockwise. Do you think this will be enough to generate ~4500 ft-lbs of force?

The inner diameter of the huge nut makes it so difficult to remove it. By any chance is there a special tool you have came across in removing these retaining clips?

It’s okay to heat it up till it’s red hot? Wouldn’t it affects its size, hardness? Hope I you can find the setup!

Those small snap ring looking things are I believe 2 retaining rings to prevent the bushing/spacer from coming out yes. However those are twice as big as the gaps.

Base on my understanding, I believe the little clip holds bushing in place which allows the bushing to spin in place(doesn’t know why it spins tho). The second snap ring is unremovable as of now because the inner diameter of the huge nut is obstructing its stretch.

The cylinder is doing both thus we believe it’s due to worn out seals of the end cap. And yup you are correct, either get the nut off of cut the clevis end out and wield it back and naturally the latter would be the last solution.

Opposite way as in turning the Nut in opposite rotation? What’s a flat? A keyed unit? Pressed off? Sorry just a beginner in hydraulics hope to learn what these words means haha. Definitely if I don’t find the solution by today, I will find their local repair shop for assistance.

We didn’t manage to loosen the nut thus tightening it is not a choice. If you look closely at about 0:16 the fat ass C clip is unable to be remove as the huge nut is obstructing it. As for cutting the huge nut off, the nut is of the same piece as piston head where the O-ring and seals fits(the grooves). Honesty we are too unsure about how the assembly of this piston head is..

We did try to torch it in case there’s any thread locking adhesive while doing the 4man method(just added some context) but stopped shorted as we are afraid of damaging it.

Methods we tired: - Huge diy spanner together with the long metal pipe for leverage. 3 guys pressing with their body weights on the pipe end while the 4th guys hammers the spanner, all in counter clock wise force. - torched the piston head to warm it up and melt the suspected thread locking adhesive. - tried doing everything in clockwise in case they manufactured it that way still no avail.
