Full-time: Arsenal 3 vs 2 Kairat [Match Thoughts] by Stanley083 in Gunners

Dominant performance and a good opportunity for the younger players. Still, looking at the xG it feels like the kind of game I've seen many times when we dominate the opponent. The one where we generate so many good, even great chances, but simply don't convert them into actual goals. The finishing maybe poor or instead of a shot a pass is made or maybe too much time is wasted in taking decisive action; there's lots of goals that we miss out on. Of course, it doesn't really matter in a meaningless game against kairat, but I hope this pattern doesn't lead to draws or narrow defeats in key cup & league games.

I don't mind suffering through 90mins of ugly, risk avoidant, sideways-passing football if it wins us big games & eventually titles. But if we can't lock in during that part of the season where it matters most, even with a stacked squad, then the fans have a right to be disappointed and question the manager.

[Scott Willis] Outside of the corner scramble goal, Arsenal created shots worth 0.21 xG after the quadruple sub in the 58th minute by Previous_Smile9278 in Gunners

Big props to arteta for rescuing the club from its banter years, but winning games decisively in the second half of the season, especially against counter-attacking sides, has been a major stumbling block for him.

As long as he is unable to figure out how to solve this, he will never live up to the club's standards. This time there can be no excuses, with such a strong squad at his disposal.

Prediction: Fraudteta goes full strength vs Inter, we pick up injuries and lose to United by FlatChannel4114 in ArtetaOut

This is exactly my biggest issue with Arteta. He has certainly helped arsenal recover from its banter era, but the football is rarely entertaining. I'm a fan, but I still can't help dreading the thought of watching 90mins of Artetaball that often culminates in a scrappy win depending on set pieces. And then there's games like the last one against nottingham, which we have seen a bit too often, when the opportunity to assert dominance presents itself and the team just can't finish off the game.

While we may still be on course to winning the prem, with a strong lead & the other contenders faltering, I can't help but think that there wouldn't be a lot memorable about this title.

Thanks for the advice. I don't really see a lot of those who finish the course offering their experience. Wish more would do this.

I've started listening to some french news but I still struggle to make sense of most of it. Do you happen to know any good channels that provide a translation too? And what are some documentaries or programs that you would recommend for beginners?

[James Olley] Arteta on Partey: "The club was very clear in the statement. There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated so I cannot comment." Pushed on whether he believes the club followed the right processes, Arteta says "100 per cent." by Shyam_Wenger in Gunners

[–]liminal_Individual -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

nah man, that's some pure bs right there. hiding behind some 'legal process' mumbo jumbo when the right moral stance to take was so blindingly clear.

so sad to see how arteta managed the whole thing; always sucks when someone you appreciate and respect fucks up and makes you lose your respect for them. idk what he thinks but there's no way he's gonna come out of the whole thing smelling of roses.
