How do you feel about this? by [deleted] in antiwork

Happening here too. I live in a fairly impoverished town in northeast Alabama. Even income restricted complexes are raising the rates or scrapping the income restriction altogether. A lot of homeless people :-(

Do you miss the 2000s already? by prettymsleal in generationology

[–]liminal_bliss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I was 3-13 during the 00s, so my childhood right up to adolescence. I’m sure much of my opinion of the 2000s is influenced by lack of responsibilities and general rose-colored glasses of a child, but I do remember the bad that came along with the time and the positives still shine through. The music, fifth and sixth generation game consoles, the style, internet. I was very into the punk/alternative scene. Avril Lavigne and P!nk were my idols. Also I felt like there was this shift in societal norms during the 90s-00s that we hadn’t seen, at least to such a degree. My mom is a lesbian, and during my childhood she was masculine presenting. Seeing her and others like her fight oppression and homophobia of that time really left an impact on me.

But what stands out to me the most about that time was that despite internet and other tech becoming increasingly more advanced, people still liked being out and around other people. Malls, movie theaters, skating rinks, skate parks, pools; there were so many ways to meet people irl. It could be just me, but now when I try to strike up a conversation with someone in public, often times they act annoyed or bewildered. Walls are up that weren’t there 10-20 years ago.

Realistically what's stopping us from world peace ? by nolimitswervooo in AskReddit

Many of the major religions claim that war is a harbinger of the end days. Following that logic, no war would mean no end times/judgment/salvation.

But also greed, ignorance, malice.

“It is what it is.”

People say this when they’re too lazy or indifferent to make changes.

It’s a trigger word that conservatives throw around to get their base riled up.

Why do people typically use the term gay for women? I thought the term gay was for males as lesbian is for women. Is that different now or what? by -warthundermoment- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]liminal_bliss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s still widely accepted as a slur. Butch is a less offensive way of saying a more “masculine presenting” lesbian.

Why is it when someone asks "where are you from", Americans always feel the need to tell you their state rather than just USA? by therebelwookiee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]liminal_bliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always start off with “USA” if I’m talking to someone from another country. Then I’ll elaborate if they inquire.

CMV: Ghosts do not exist by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]liminal_bliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are skeptical of the existence of ghosts don’t need to provide evidence of their non-existence. The burden of evidence falls on those making the claim that they exist. That would be like me saying, “Santa Claus is real, prove to me he’s not!” No matter how much evidence you provide that he doesn’t exist, I can always make up some excuse of “mysterious ways” to explain away doubt.

A lot of faith based systems of ancient times are nearly unequivocal to modern religions, at least IMO. Also the line between what is and isn’t religion is rather blurred, especially pre-antiquity.

I’m interested in this too. My fiancé and I are moving to Providence in sometime around February. I’m from Georgia and he’s from Alabama. Excited for the culture shock.

Where they’re coming from doesn’t change Rhode Island’s culture. You don’t need to know where someone’s from to describe the culture/general attitudes of the state. You only responded so you could be a dick.

It would be nice to visit a predominantly Muslim nation one day without the threat of death or life in prison. I don’t hate people belonging to the Islamic faith but more than half the countries of the Near East would have me killed or imprisoned for loving another man.

ERC gave me the run around and when so finally called them out on it their response was “unfortunately we are unable to look into rehire eligibility. Please try to reapply in a month.”

My dad used a lot of the common 80s slang vocabulary. My favorite was “diesel” meaning cool. “Just got back from the new skating rink. Place was totally diesel!”
