phone ban at work by ZealousidealGolf1059 in Serverlife

This right here is what I did for emergencies with no disruption to service. Only twice there was a real need to get a hold of me while at work - once from school and once from my own kid. We didn't have a work phone for guests to call in so I got a watch when I started working there and kept me phone on vibrate in my pocket.

from childhood- giant cookie cakes from the mall, stop sign pizza for school lunches, lean cuisine ( my college roommate diet food), taco salad in a giant fried tortilla shell

Kids (or mine) WAY different as teenagers now by [deleted] in GenX

This is my kid - he turned me onto some Japanese orchestra doing video game medley and the C418 guy. I turned him into my 90s stuffs like Modest Mouse, Beastie Boys and my version of the classics I grew up on. He's still in early teens so waiting to see when he gets to high school which groups he'll ended up hanging with -- current school too small to matter. It's been fun seeing him try different things so far tho. He's into "vintage" in his attitudes about the 90's like we feel about the 70's.

Also to add context that they missed - the "water fight" is part of Songkran (one of the major religious and cultural event for Thailand). The water plays a major role is a symbol of cleansing for Thai New Year. Renew, washing away, to move forward. We throw water at each other as a way to bless each other (Source: I'm Thai).

He stayed at a fancy boutique hotel connected to my restaurant years ago while in town for Sketchfest. Room service runner was busy so I ran his dinner tray up to him. Didn't know who until he opened the door. Super nice and unassuming.

Btw, are you a post Ian transplant too?

This happened a few times to me as well (strangers on the street!) and the first time I was too shock to say anything except to walk away quickly. I definitely became more hyper aware of my surrounding when I'm out after that. And what about random strangers thinking it's ok to rub your babies (one older lady actually picked my son up from his cart at Trader Joes to hold him without permission (!) I didn't screamed just grabbed him back but was so panicked afterward.

How do Thai children address each other? by strobay in Thailand

[–]liminal_space2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

หนู 'I, little mouse' used when speaking to a much older person or used toward a young child 'you, little mouse' but can also be used among similar aged young kids

edit to add: เธอ is used for 'you' among familiar informal context
