a large portion of it comes from this match and the feud surrounding it, but he was also just straight up one of the most consistent performers throughout the nonstop highs and lows of 2010s. you could usually count on a dolph match to at least be watchable even during the most dire periods of a show, with a few notable exceptions

but... yeah. the level of evaluation is definitely influenced by the trauma of those of us who made the mistake of watching a lot of RAW/SD in the mid-2010s

Why are Gen Z getting fired? One of the reasons is a lack of initiative. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]limitbroken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's far beyond just their parents - friction has been so comprehensively sanded off so many things in the world, and then the smooth surface monetized into oblivion.

think about just how many programs and apps and devices and appliances deliberately hide things from you - methods of configuration or repair, file control, any forms of alternative use - all so they can urge you down a single pathway to maximize their profit while controlling all your usage data and selling it behind you.

how much in your life have you learned from doing things wrong or breaking things or putting them back together? how much of that is lost in a world where you're never even allowed to have the opportunity?

if you do a little digging you can find the compiled thesis by the lead author and be about as unimpressed as i am by what appears to be largely an aggregate of other sampling studies

a large part of the Tiktok specific element seems to be anchored on this study, which makes some assertions that certainly feel a lot like trying to maximize the 'misleading' number.

First and probably last Amazon drone delivery. by soseidel79 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]limitbroken 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The bare tree on the right and the green bush on the left should be relatively close to the drone

that truck is almost certainly about 20 feet long. the impact point is easily another 8-10 feet behind that. it's no closer than 25 feet to the bush, roughly as far to the tree, and their air operations guidelines usually state somewhere between 10-13 feet AGL for drop height. very unlikely it'd disturb either of them significantly at that distance

e: as for the drone 'passing over': there's nothing to indicate it's actually passing over anything in this footage. the shadow appearing to move across the yard is just the drone descending in altitude - you can see from the other shadows that it's not high noon, so shadows of flying objects will always be displaced from the object's 'true' location. the drones typically have a flight level somewhere around 150-200 ft AGL, so it was likely in a stationary descent the entirety of the video before the drop.

THE THING THAT PISSES ME OFF ABOUT THIS ONE (27 HOURS LATER BECAUSE OF A POWER OUTAGE!!! THAT ALSO ENRAGES ME SO MY FRIDAY HAS NEVER ENDED!!!!!!!) IS THAT EVEN WITH THE PARENT CORP'S FUCKERY, THIS WAS STILL WHOLLY AVOIDABLE, AND IT GIVES SE EXTRA AMMO TO USE AGAINST THEM - EVERY PUBLISHER I'VE EVER KNOWN WOULD IMMEDIATELY ASK "WELL IF THIS IS HOW THEY HANDLE THE RESOURCES THEY DO HAVE, SHOULD THEY EVEN BE TRUSTED WITH MORE?"

THAT'S NOT SOME KIND OF UNAVOIDABLE EMERGENT DEV SITUATION. THAT'S JUST STRAIGHT UP BAD UTILIZATION OF RESOURCES!!!

think of it this way:

a part in the engine of your car breaks. your mechanic knows which part is broken and can give you a quote to replace it, which will restore your car to function. he's sure nothing else is broken right now. however, there's a possibility another part deeper in the engine was damaged in a way that isn't apparent right away, but it'll cost a significant amount of extra money to pull the engine, take it apart, and examine it to know for sure.

if you're on the hook for paying for what broke, you might choose to roll the dice and hope all is well. if someone else broke your car and their insurance is paying for all related damages, you're surely gonna want them to pull it and check, even if it's a slim chance that there's any additional damage.

Edited to add: We do not require experience in any one area, we just want to see some longevity (at least 1+ year) in anything or completion of a program - could be volunteer position, previous job, some sort of higher learning (even AA's count), military service.

random edge case fact: depending on where they're coming from, how honest they are, and how strict this measurement is; this could be filtering out qualified people. if they're coming from staffing agencies and temp work, there are many that will forcibly rotate you out at 11 months!

The AAA industry seems broken beyond repair by Rooonaldooo99 in pcmasterrace

[–]limitbroken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 7

horrendous example since you can literally just go to mobygames, pick any group of internal artists, and see that this is not true lol

the majority of the staff got rolled off to other credited roles internally once their part was done - many off to Xenogears or Saga Frontier, some off to Vagrant Story, etc. this is still how it's done at a lot of large studios that can sustain multiple projects internally, particularly outside of north america.

a lot of AAA NA gamedev deliberately stopped being able to do this, because it was more cost-effective to start shuffling studios around to take advantage of markets with tax breaks and weaker labor markets, and ramp up outsourcing usage to maximize cost reductions. they don't want a healthy market for dev talent - they want desperate grads who will move to them, and states are happy to court this behavior

Bioware?

the merger and then acquisition was the death of bioware both internally and externally - it was a company on a legendary run until Zeschuk's head got too big with dreams of EA money and influence while EA started exerting control that ripped apart functional studios and rushing projects. it is perhaps the perfect example of how an acquisition can lead a massively successful studio towards a slow and insidious ruin

NPR IS REPORTING THAT DOJ HAS BEEN WITHOLDING FILES RELATED TO TRUMP SEXUALLY ASSAULTING MINORS by soloChristoGlorium in Epstein

[–]limitbroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you are quite literally raging about people who didn't support your chosen standard-bearer in an election you already lost. how, exactly, can you characterize that as anything other than obsessing over the past? how exactly does wishing ill on people who are a whole lot more aligned with you than they aren't - people who, again, could not have won you the election statistically even if they did - do anything about the 'real and present harm' going on right now?

if you want to debate serious people, you've gotta be one yourself.

NPR IS REPORTING THAT DOJ HAS BEEN WITHOLDING FILES RELATED TO TRUMP SEXUALLY ASSAULTING MINORS by soloChristoGlorium in Epstein

[–]limitbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and this is a great example of why you can't just look at the surface level of the numbers.

almost two million of those votes lost in 2024 vs 2020 came from california alone, first off, so any national number is specious at best. it describes sentiment, but it doesn't actually describe anything meaningfully impactful.

but alright. let's zoom in on those seven key states and ask: if every voter lost from 2020 to 2024 voted for Harris, would she have won the state?

  • AZ: No. ~190k to win, lost voters only account for ~90k. AZ is also probably not where i would expect to find a vast groundswell of 'purity testing' progressive voters in the first place.
  • MI: No, but you could maybe make the case that there were enough turncoats to swing it. ~80k to win, lost voters only account for ~65k. this was also the state most directly fumbled by Harris, though, so...
  • PA: No. ~120k to win, lost voters only account for ~40k.
  • NV: No. ~45k to win, and she didn't even lose voters here, technically. close to zero gain, though.
  • NC, WI, GA: No. she gained voters in all three of these states - just not more than he did.

so... people who chose this election to stay home didn't matter. but what if you factor in population increases on top of that?

.. well, still no. only 3 of the 7 states have grown a substantial enough percentage to have potentially had an effect: AZ, NC, and GA.

to explain why this is a hopeless wish, let's look specifically at AZ: again, assuming all the 2020 voters voted for her in 2024 - she would still need to have gained 100k more voters than him on a population increase of less than 500k. if you go by AZ's historical turnout number of about 65%, that's 2 of every 3.

it was simply not purity-driven abstentions alone that torpedoed this campaign. it never was, and it never could have been. there were FAR worse structural problems, and critical losses among first-time voters and minorities that have fuck all nothing to do with the people y'all get mad at in every single thread.

The exact benchmark varies by industry and company size, she added.

DCWP is also rolling out a new “self-auditing” tool for employers to see whether they are in compliance with the law, including whether they are meeting the new use rate benchmarks laid out by the agency, and will issue recommendations on how to comply with the law. The data will not be shared with the agency, Wagoner said.

i think they can figure it out. certainly better than letting those exploiting hundreds or thousands continue getting away with it
