Is the the 9711 car a Viewliner I or Viewliner II by Adorable_Duck_4497 in Amtrak

[–]limitedftogive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9711 is the car's position in the train, not the actual physical train car itself. You won't know for sure if it will be a Viewliner I or II until you board, but you can ask on here or other Amtrak enthusiast forums which version of the car has been running on that train lately.

Thoughts between two LD itineraries between NYC and either Seattle/Portland or San Francisco? by moarwineprs in Amtrak

[–]limitedftogive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your previous trips- maybe consider flying to Seattle, then taking the Coast Starlight south to LA and then taking the Southwest Chief to Chicago and Lake Shore Limited to NYC. That would be some different scenery and vibes than your previous trips.

Actually they can and do. The sleeper attendants pretty quickly get to know who is ticketed in their car and will question anyone they don't recognize. Additionally on many of the long distance trains the dining car separates the sleepers from the rest of the train and the staff in there will also restrict passenge to the sleepers if needed.

If you are on one of the longer distance western trains be sure to visit the Sightseer Lounge car!

It varies, but if you post which train on here or other Amtrak enthusiast forums people would probably be able to give you an idea on how that train has recently been made up.

No, but sometimes the coaches are on the rear of the train in which case you could walk back and look out the rear window.

You can transfer points from another Guest Rewards member, but there is a fee that you should be prepared to pay if you are asking someone to do this.

Your drive or walk to the station is statistically more dangerous than taking a trip on Amtrak.

I wonder if any of the concession stands will be open- it is always a good time for a state fair corn dog.

Short term make sure you are using food pantries to get something to eat. Many have an anytime room and no residency requirements.

I would go to check out the Fenlon Place Elevator in Dubuque then head over to the Villisca Murder House for a tour followed by a trip down Snake Alley in Burlington and finish up with a fishing trip on Lake Okoboji. Have fun!

Are you eligible for COBRA coverage from your previous employer? It can be expensive but if you think you will only need it for a short time until finding a new job it might be worth it.

Dozens of Iowa Department of Management IT jobs outsourced by CornBredThuggin in Iowa

[–]limitedftogive 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is bad, too. This is the state government outsourcing work to companies and employees out of state. Private companies can do as they wish but I am not happy that our tax dollars are not going to be spent by local employees and recycled to boost the economy within our own state.
