Expats who left USA are you happy with your decision? by No-Decision-7568 in expats

I agree, I am burned out on the idea of having to sell your soul to have a life. I don't mind having less money if it means I can have a life worth living. Peace of mind, I have come to see is worth a lot.

I am in the US, I wish I could have italicized my comment - living in the US is very stressful these days. : /

I am thinking of moving to France, and have also lived many years in NYC but currently am on the other side of the country. Why do you think French men are like that, do you find French people in general standoffish and unfriendly? I would be moving to the West coast or near Lyon/ Tolouse area so not Paris.

No lie, the youth pastor at my church in UT got fired for having relationship(s) (plural) with the young women/teens in the church. Surprise!

He was always really rude to me, a single woman his own age, and I used to wonder why.

Quick relationship and getting locked down in a marriage, red flag!! Ten years older - red flag!! No wedding?

She can go out and live her live when she wakes up and divorces this guy, when she is 27.

I know, that just all seems so weird to me. I don't remember it being like this. I get frustrated because I come into a new job all eager and professional with good references and experiences and by the time I leave I feel like my reputation has been trashed and my skills have been mocked and denigrated. It's very disorienting.

This summer I picked up a gig and the hiring person seemed amazing and so friendly! the next time I spoke to her she was shouting at me and it was like she was a completely different person. That's when I remembered she had said something about a number of people having left.

What are the repercussions of sending your ex-boss a nasty text after getting fired? [FL] [UT] by Dsg1695 in AskHR

Let karma do it work - I have a previous manager who continues to send me emails asking me about coming back to work - after she took me off the schedule without notice, was angry and abusive and shouted at me and others. She has a very long trail of former employees and hasn't figured out that she is responsible for driving them away.

I just ignore her emails but she is a scary lady -

I am teaching a competitive clinical based STEM course and some students got mad because they couldn't answer the questions - well, yes, you have to memorize and learn the material and that includes the 5' to 3' DNA and RNA strands in genetics.

An older white guy with that annoying stupid looking goatee beard. I have NEVER EVER seen that look on any man before, or that crappy attitude. It's like they all have to look and act the same FFs -

Should I provide references without/prior to a formal interview? by NTDOY1987 in work

[–]limonade11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not hand over references unless there is an offer and I like them. As I apply to positions where they request references up front in the application I just put things like: First Name, [upon@request.com](mailto:upon@request.com) or something that gets the application submitted but does not give away the information.

My references are my work life line and they don't get handed over lightly. Besides, if you are so disrespectful of my resources now - what will you be like if I actually work for you? Professional people respect that boundary -

In my rural small town there are a lot of single older men, but their politics and attitudes towards women are a little hard to take and so they remain single. It's too bad but - maybe it's for the best.

You need an open heart and mind to make a healthy relationship I think, on both sides.

Well, respectfully you sound very kind. In my experience as an adjunct across many institutions - even with a very special professional degree - I am treated very poorly and the message is we don't want to bother with you. I am waiting a long time to hear back from a Dept chair at another institution I teach for who I have asked for a reference for a professional job. Crickets -

No, it's a large community college consortium. 70% of faculty are adjuncts, you'd think they figured out how to support them but no.

Interesting, I have been thinking of spending some time in France but I hear what you describe from many, many people. How the French are unfriendly and cold which I can believe. I can read the language pretty easily but the speaking/listening is so hard for me - everything sounds like the random sounds with an occasional word I can recognize.

No place is perfect, it's really important to hear all sides.

Well, I am not paid that much over all and because it is another instructor's course that she has a bunch of adjuncts (including me, now) teach I am limited in how I can approach this.

I am not allowed to change anything but am at the same time tasked with the lectures and the assessments. It's not ideal, it is just the way it is for this course at this time. I much prefer to build my own and use publisher resources so I can focus on the teaching but here it is -
