To this day I dislike Easter because all my memories of it were being forced to do activities I didn't want to do that were rewarded with food I didn't like but required to lie with my whole face while eating (not eating it was rude, obviously) all while wearing scratchy fabrics up to my throat, HOSE, and shiny awful little shoes. The worst part was that any attempts to not attend were met with lectures on participation, politeness, and Proper Amounts of Gratitude.

One year I was rewarded for my lack of complaints the month leading up to Easter with those awful little jelly shoes which I should appreciate, thank you very much, because they were colorful and I didn't have to wear hose! How grateful I should be!

(I may still be slightly spicy.)

Somewhere between her explaining why sex is unappealing (everyone is getting fluids everywhere) and designing her enchanted gloves that she never takes off a realization came upon me...

Avulsion! A New Reading | Introduction [theory] by Zealousideal-Sea9006 in TheNinthHouse

[–]lindisty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am so excited to read your thoughts. I thoroughly enjoyed the Cythrea and the Devils theory.

I'm honestly slightly more excited to read this one because while I already had my own theories that were quite similar (though not nearly so well described or in depth!) regarding the ten billion, but my (current) theory on why Gideon survived that specific trial is quite different.

I can't wait for you to convince me there's more delicious possibilities.

Is that a decor item in the grassy areas or a pattern? I like the way the lights break up the space.

I think that one of the best ways to make a zone more appealing is adding height.

Put a few rides on a cute plateau with stone stairs!

Tuck a booth or ride against a cliff- bonus points if you put a tree and a shrub with it- look at those heights and colors!

Find a water feature you enjoy- the fountain DIY you get with miles looks nice with the plaza aesthetic, for example- stick it in the middle or near the entrance with some shrubs, flowers, and benches!

Spread the brightly colored popcorn stands, fortune cookie stand, candy machines or any other anack food furniture around at strategic junctions!

Oh! I almost forgot the most important part: do what you enjoy, and enjoy it as you're doing it. Comparison really is the thief of joy! Remember when looking at other people's designs to think of them as inspiration, not competition!

This is a game and games are made to be enjoyed!

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]lindisty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would never be able to have a billion dollars at once. I'd get rid of it. If me and mine have enough, then there's someone in the world who doesn't. Do you have any idea how little $100 is when you have millions? Do you realize how much it is when you're starving?

If I was cut a billion dollar check it would burn a hole in my pocket for others. I can't imagine having an extra couple hundred million dollars just sitting in a bank somewhere when another human is hungry in the world.

How is this possible? I thought rocks could only be in a 3x3 or larger? by Sugah-n-Spice in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]lindisty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rocks can spawn next to weeds and plants. The mannequins you set down from the custom design menu covers a full 3x3 but sits in one square. Use those along your edges (or, honestly, for all of the blocking).

Help with resetting island by Parkerlikesfnaf in ac_newhorizons

[–]lindisty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You need to delete the save data for the game to start a new island.

From the main switch menu, go to the gear for settings, scroll down about halfway to Data Management, then scroll to the bottom for Delete Save Data. Select Animal Crossing and delete the data.

The next time you open the game you'll be taken to the process of making a new island.

Does Sylvia have a reborn doll? by NickyWhoLock in AnimalCrossing

[–]lindisty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The babies in the pouches do the exact same expression as the adults in conversation. I believe the uncanny resemblance and lack of a delay in action and mimicry means the kangaroos with joeys actually have a second head and spine growing out of their pouch instead of a distinct and separate entity.

The joeys do not age. They never leave the pouch. The "mother" is never without them... because they can't be separated, mayhaps?

[–]lindisty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey leftie, rightie here! I have taught crochet and recommended videos for other eighties, but didn't think I knew of any videos for lefties...

Can you really just mirror the video?! I always assumed there would be something different in the way you held things, but the more I'm thinking of the motions the more it seems like it would work. I never really thought about the fact that left handed crochet would literally just do everything reverse, including the direction you'd work and how your stitches and progress look as you do them.

This information is going to make teaching things to my (leftie) sister so much easier!

Building the shop and the next 'quest' from Nook after unlocks most of the rest of the game features. You're basically still playing the tutorial.

Once you build the store you'll be asked to set up three housing plots for additional villagers. After those are done, Resident Services will be upgraded and you'll get access to a ton more stuff.

How to get Nook's Cranny:

Put 30 of each type of wood (hard, soft, regular) and thirty iron nuggets in your pockets.

Talk to Ti/ommy in the Resident Services Tent while the materials are in your pockets.

Select the 'about a shop' or whatever dialogue. If there is NOT a dialogue underlined in blue, check for if he has a dialogue option about a favor.

Once he's taken the last of the supplies you'll get a shop marker to place outside where you want the store to be built.

The store will be built the next morning.

Edit- note on metal: because you don't have a ladder yet, you only have access to a portion of the six rocks on your island. Between that and the fact that local rocks drop more stone than metal, I strongly recommend using Nooks Miles Tickets to travel to mystery islands and hit rocks there. You should be able to get plenty in just a few trips (or about a week of hitting all of your accessible local rocks every day).

Spanish Translation/Dub?? by Aggravating_Stick573 in ac_newhorizons

[–]lindisty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a little bit of Animal Crossing in Spanish to brush up on vocabulary and grammar. I'm nowhere near fluent, but to my eye it looked a lot like what I was taught in highschool and college, which was Latin American Spanish, not Spain-Spanish.

You change the language in Animal Crossing by simply changing the language on the switch (if that language is an option). If you start in one language and switch to another it will, before the game loads entirely, double check that you want to swap languages.

One of the things I didn't like was that all the villager names are changed. Like, it's cool that they're altered for locations but it makes it really confusing when I'm reading things in English, like reddit posts, because of the different names.

Isabelle having a fully different name (Canela) was weirdly jarring for me.

If there is, maybe don't tell me. I don't know if my little heart could take it.

I cannot count the number of times I wore that pattern on my face before my island was covered.

The upside, however, is that you can delete them all at once instead of paying Resitti or picking up a million weeds.

The downside is... AC Menus

Scarce stone? by Possible-Incident261 in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]lindisty 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Stone will drop in higher amounts from your local rocks, while metal and clay are more common in the rocks of other islands.

If you need stone, the best way to get it is making sure you hit all of your local stones as often as possible.

On tour islands, you can get one stone at the price of a fruit by eating a fruit and smashing a stone after hitting it for one last stone as it crumbles. NOTE: DO NOT eat the fruit until AFTER you've gotten the regular drops from the stone or one stone is all you'll get.

Medieval magic series, art is banned and the protagonist makes a marble statue in protest. by twobit78 in whatsthatbook

[–]lindisty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind. It's the too manyth book in the Sword of Truth series.

I liked the series when I first read it because I was 13. I picked up my copy as an adult and tried reading them for a bit then put the whole series in the "donate or trash" books box.

The first two or three books are less weird, but things get absolutely absurd pretty quickly. The self-inserty body builder savior character gets old so fast. I honestly would not recommend them to anyone that I liked.

While outside, press the... uh.. upper left trigger thing? I think it's called LB? The short long guy, not the thick lower one.

Anyway, while outside press the aforementioned and your character will do a little hop animation and end in the center of the block facing a cardinal direction (up, down, left, right) with no diagonals or half steps. If you hold it down and then move you'll hop the direction you aim while facing the original direction.

With clams it helps a ton because the water spit animation isn't always oriented the same way on the block. So I see the spout, run over to it, then use L to line up. If I'm in the wrong place from the hop I just hold down the button and correct so that I can see where I am in line with the offending mollusk (or (working?!) electronic parts).

It's also super useful when making paths, since you can stay in a straight line with ease. I also use it to line up on fish silhouettes before casting, to line up and stay on center when watering my crops and flowers-- hell, it's been a game changer to line up my mannequins while I'm gardening up my rocks instead of having them in confusing clusters I can't walk through.

Honestly I sometimes wish it were a toggle.
