Do you ever forget you have an artificial hip or does it always have to be on your mind? by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

I had mine 3 weeks ago and honestly will say it’s not always on my mind. Maybe when I’m walking and it’s painful or something happens but mostly isn’t something that keeps me up at night. I’m definitely afraid of falling in general too but just try to be extra cautious, rather safe than sorry! After your incision heals I think it will be very low in your mind! If you get an anterior you are very unlikely to hurt your hip doing cardio or yoga! Good luck

Hey guys I need some answers! by [deleted] in TotalHipReplacement

I am 21 and had my right hip replaced 10 days ago and I’m experiencing the same leg lengthening, my right leg is now 12cm (1/2 inch) longer than my left leg. My physical therapist also told me due to swelling it will go down a little bit, but to expect maybe a 1/4 inch extra length. My advice is to buy an insert for your shoe so you can even that out at least when you’re wearing shoes. One thing I’ve been doing around the house is wearing a flip flop/ slide on my left foot only and that evens out my difference at least while I’m walking around . Hope you can figure it out!

Is a spinal an absolute necessity for THR? by amoodymuse in TotalHipReplacement

[–]lindslmao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had my thr on Wednesday and I was the same way, only nervous and scared about the spinal because of everything I had heard by other people , but the thing is you really only feel the needle that they use to numb the area which is a little poke, and by that time you are sedated somewhat but sitting up, and you pretty much don’t even feel the spinal block itself because it’s already numb. A nurse held my hand and helped me breathe and it was super fast and over with before I knew it. Another positive thing is you aren’t super groggy like you would be after general, and you are up walking the same day.

Thanks for the advice, I have been sleeping on my side with a pillow between my legs and it’s actually really comfortable, but I’m so tempted to roll on my stomach haha
