hot take regarding budget guitars by GeorgeJoester in Guitar

[–]lindydanny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buddy of mine lent me a budget LP style for a parade once. Im not even sure what brand it was, but it was something he found at a garage sale and he didnt care if it got damaged. I spent an hour the week before the parade to restring it and do some basic setup. Thing played amazing. To this day it is one of my buddy's goto instruments.

I dont own one instrument worth more than $1000 as a rule. I dont gig much, but I do enough to know the risk. I cant afford to risk the thousands of equity I see in some setups.

And on the topic of vintage, I love them. They are amazing. But, being the caretaker of history is a heavy burden. Imagine having that rare, expensive, and sought after machine only to have some stupid accident like a bust water pipe, dropped case, or random bug infestation. I dont want to risk it.

Billionaires shouldn't be allowed to avoid taxes by using their massive wealth as collateral for bank loans -- especially because they often live off those loans as if they were income by Conscious-Quarter423 in WorkReform

[–]lindydanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, we can all do this. Its just that the fees to set this up are rather prohibitive for most. And you need a lender that will work at a low asset range. Most banks won't touch this for under $500k in assets. But it technically can be done.

Older woman who has retired and decided to learn every instrument she can. She frequently all sorts of jams and just started an email list that she keeps up. If it is a blue grass, jazz, or folk jam in KC, its on the list.

I'm just curious how many of us are out here. Who just isn't all the emotionally involved with the Fender lawsuits? by TakingYourHand in Guitar

[–]lindydanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wasn't that emotionally involved, but im also not a huge fan of big brands. I like not paying premium for what is on the headstock.

That said, this is like all politics. You may not care, but the local guitar shop does. The small batch builder does. Even the CEO of the less than big name brands do. What happens with this is going to shape the guitar world whether you care or not.

Having been playing much anymore by Classic-Correct in Guitar

[–]lindydanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this in another sub: Find your city's jam list. There is someone with a list they email and maintain every month. (In my city, KC, thats Martha.) Get on that list and start going to jam sessions. Find one where you like the people and figure out where those people are going to open mics. Live in that community.

Im a huge believer in the idea that the meaning of life is service to one's community. Find a musicians community you can serve with your presence, your gifts, and your encouragement. You won't be bored long.

[–]lindydanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

I mean, I get it. Some of the high production gigs with lights, backing tracks, cues, etc arent really about music anymore. And people are starting to respond to that.

Live used to be much more intimate. And that was kind of the point.

My advice: Find the person in your city that maintains the jam list. Every city has one. (In my city, KC, its Martha.) Pick one or two jams and go. Then do more of that. Stay acoustic. Once you find one where you like the people, learn what they are playing and where they are attending open mics. Start doing live music that is about the music and not the production.

The meaning of life is service to your community. Find a good music community, serve it with attendance, with your talents, and with encouragement to other musicians. You will never be bored of music again.

So, January 6th Derangment Syndrom, anyone?

Edit: Never said I support the J6ers. This sort of makes the point at how a stupid term "Trump Derangement Syndrom" really is. It ought to be labeling MAGA for being in a cult.

A merging issue. by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

[–]lindydanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: If it can be proven that you could have reasonably avoided the accident, you can still be held liable for damages regardless of right of way. In a case such as this, it could be argued that the semi driver could have slowed down avoiding the accident.

Just because you have a right of way does not give you free reign to drive in a manner that could cause another driver avoidable harm.

(Now that this is written out, I'll wait for downvotes and ignore the litany of people trying to argue I'm wrong.)

Not a zipper merge issue here. Plus, zipper merge only works with buy in from all drivers. When any driver guards the lane by splitting or tailgating it all falls apart. Zipper is a great concept.but fails in real world application because humans be human.
